I should have, been a month or so, But if a few reefers read this and save themselves the hassle, I'm good. I'm sure I'll use the bulbs they would just be the most expensive plusrite bulbs I've ever bought.

Thier TOS covers chargebacks also, so probably much like sling... I agreed to be ripped off. But I will see what card I used since some are better than others with chargebacks.
Yea gets harder when its older..
Maybe a bit of venting will help..
BBB of N. Indiana

The profile shows they have been in biz for 31 years. Probably the kids ruining it now.. :)

I ordered Plusrite 250w de 20k from ZORO, both times received 10k. I was refunded and got to keep the bulbs. Guess if it comes to it years from now will have to give them a go.
They also have the “replacement for”Phoenix, so buyer beware

Alright... I spoke with Hamilton today again. They said all light bulbs (10K, 14K, 20K) were already ordered and they are waiting for the production. Also 175W, 250W and 400W electronic ballasts were ordered and we will need to wait until they are available.
Now... They are excited to make modern new models of fixtures as well, but that will depend on the real demand for those fixtures!! They said they have received some emails lately that would lead them to that direction, but they still have to check if real numbers would define a significant demand.
Everyone interested in metal halides should email them requesting metal halide gear and specify what fixtures. There is even a possibility for a new modern Cebu Sun fixture, if so, similar to the Spectra from Giesemann with their own design. Email them, please! I receive so many messages from so many pople. I do not work for them and I can't decide anything for the company. I'm just a hobbyist, my friends. Let Hamilton know how much you want metal halide gear to be available now. This is a critical time to decide the availability of halides for this hobby.

@A. grandis I just scored some new 250w Radium’s! Getting some M80’s from a friend.

How should I burn these in to transition from 14K Hamilton’s? Trying to figure out how I want to do it. Hmm…

Ah…that would be sweet! Put me on the list. I loved their reflector’s!

Keep me updated on this. Plz!

In this case just swap the bulbs and diminish 2 hours of your photoperiod because it's in the same wattage. Then add one more hour every 3-5 days til it gets back to the normal photoperiod. I like to be more careful when I change from 20Ks to 14K or 10K and take a bit longer to adapt to a new bulb. The adaptation really depends on the coral species you've got there and nutrient pool. Observe and use common sense. I've never had trouble changing halide bulbs. It's more forgiving than you would think. Happy for you.

The very last time I spoke with them didn't seem too promissing about the fixtures. They said they will need a lot more demand for that financial step. Their pimary investment will be directed to the bulbs. I don't work for the company and can only give suggestions as a consumer. I hope they would listen to half of what I've told them. If they only knew how much money they could make with a new well designed fixture!

Yes, agreed. I think there is still a good market for Halides. Too bad we can’t come up with a nice reflector design and also bring some 250w and 400w Radium’s + M80’s back to the market. Hamilton doesn’t like to store the reflectors and they probably get damaged a lot during shipping. I wonder how hard it would be to make some professionally. I mean they’re just aluminum that is made into a shape.

The Phoenix bulb was a very unique DE bulb. I’d love to try that one also.

Very easy to make! I used to make them all the time back in the day and still have templates some where for lumenarcs…

Seems to me that Hamilton would profit more to this move due to they will be the only company producing them. Every one else got out.

I have 36 inch single end bulb fixture with a couple of Icecap ballast. At one time I had plans to setup a grow out tank. Starting out with used equipment. Even stocked up on Radium bulbs. There's nothing grows coral better then metal halides. 10 years ago, I had a 40 gallon breeder that grew coral better from the get go faster then my established 120 gallon display tank that's been setup for years.

Wish there was there is a way to handle the heat. Living in the south doesn't help.

Hamilton needs to know the demand for the fixtures/ballasts is there. The more people sending emails to them, the better chances we have to get back to normal with fixtures and ballasts. There is no way they will grow selling only bulbs. If the new generation, which loves new toys, can't buy nice reflectors with a variaty of sizes for different applications, and the ballasts, the market will shrink and end soon. We also need a good bulb recycle program to do the right thing for the green aspect of the hobby. Advertise is a huge percentage of success too, so they need to invest in all that. They said they would like to receive emails asking for the fixtures and ballasts before make their move. Call them too!

How do you make them as reflective as the commercially made high-polish reflectors?
Polished aluminum sheets or chem metal 901 for the high end chrome look.. polished stainless is an option but doesn’t do well in high temp applications it dulls out.

Bulbs and reflectors will always be in demand in our hobby… ballast they’re gonna have to come up with something price wise that’s competitive to the green house market or people will buy there without the reef tax lol.

LOL! Yup, the reef taxes are in everything in this hobby. It's depressing! Even hobbyists charge reef tax when they sell their 1/4" samples for cash.
If Tullio can make magnetic ballasts again, Hamilton can! They are more stable driving most bulbs better IME! If Hamilton could bring back their reflector's line people would definitely be ble to choose the right reflector for their application and we would have no problem. Without the reflectors we can't recommend anything to anyone. Each person would have to dig their local market for old gear and try their best. We need a good selection of reflectors, ballasts, bulbs, and parts to get back to normal. That is the right way to reef with halides!

Search Facebook Marketplace for "halide". There's no shortage of ballasts and reflectors. They might have a slight herbal smell, though.
