This was super helpful. It makes me think I must be underfeeding the tank. I feed a small amount of mysis for the fish and then moderate dosing of phyto daily but thats about it. For some reason I thought the phyto would feed pretty much everything in the tank, but this is definitively not the case (though the clam and mussel like it). I am impressed your coral like so much light. I've bleached several with my reefbreeder v2 photons at 45% (which is where I keep it). Maybe the bleaching was due to low nutrients instead of high light as i was suspecting...

I don't run a skimmer, but I'll start feeding more heavily and let you know how it goes. Here's a 'before pic' 12/10/20

Thanks!

It's beautiful! I prefer a high nutrient system but you have to make sure that you have an appropriate cuc and skimmer before you attempt it. Love the back wall :)

Whoop! Looks like y’all’ve been getting antsy so here’s an update!! The only major change was the removal of the chalice rock from the back right corner, and it’s been replaced with some great stuff! So I’m gonna start off with some FTS then we’ll get into some macro stuff :)

I’m thinking about rearranging some hammers here. There are 8 different varieties but you can really only see like 5. That green stem purple tip needs some trimming soon!

Alright guys, I think I’m ready. After the loss of my sweet little cherub I don’t think I can put another one in here, it would feel too much like replacing him. I’m currently diving in Cozumel right now and I found a group of chalk bass!

Looking at pics on the internet, they aren’t anything spectacular but seeing them here in the wild is so different. They’re much redder in real life than the pictures depict. I’m thinking about maybe a group of 2 or 3, as they only get to 3” and I often see them in groups here while diving.

Do y’all think this is a good idea? The only other livestock in there are two sexy shrimp and the clown pair which are still relatively small at 1.5”-2”. I also have a clam but I doubt they would mess with it, has anyone had a problem with these guys?

If y’all have other suggestions I’m all ears, I was thinking maybe a wrasse but I’ll have to wait for my lid to come in (it’s been 4 months since I ordered it, seriously) and I can’t have anything that will kill my sexy shrimp. Just in case you forgot, this is also a barebottom tank which unfortunately rules out a lot of wrasses.

A new fish is! Maybe chalk bass, maybe another fish. Check my recent post a couple posts up! I’m also organizing a big sale and a few raffles through Instagram. I’m starting a small coral business with a couple reefer friends of mine. @kt_corals on insta and my personal page is @r2rfootgal, you’ll find a lot of eye candy there that never makes it to r2r

Don’t know much about Chalk bass. At one time that fish was on my list of fish I wanted. They are really neat looking.

Nice, I don’t have Instagram but I’ll still try to check it out. I’m still interested in the split BTA and Garf Bonsai:p

No prob, I’m still in Cozumel but I’ll be back home soon. Unfortunately, my mother nem decided to move and I’m still trying to get her out of an impossibly deep hole in the rocks. I’m gonna try one of those nem tube things when I get back! She’s gettin way too close to my hammer garden and needs to go

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
