Welcome to the Reef2Reef POTM Contest - Photo of the Month

Sponsored by
Avast Marine!

This month's subject - LPS Colony

Deadline to Enter: 20th May, 2024 at 11:59 pm (EST)

Looking forward to great shots of Those LPS colonies ! Remember, the photo has to have been taken by you, and the subject has to be in your aquarium.
No watermarks or captions are allowed in the pictures and pictures with watermarks will be disqualified.
A bit of info around the LPS you chose, how long you had it, lighting feeding, growth rate.... would add interest to the posting.

This is a photo contest after all and we're looking for the best photograph. Yes, you can use a post-editing product to better your pictures. In fact, we encourage it.
Few tips:
Carefully chose an LPS colony that's interesting due to color or growth shape.
Experiment with different viewing angles or maybe angle the colony for a better viewing angle while staying perpendicular to front glass or just shoot top down and angle the camera for the best viewing angle.
Experiment with taking the shot under a more blue for nicer phosphorescent colors, with or without orange filter as you prefer.
or maybe under whiting lights for more realistic colors in the shot.
maybe include a swimming fish nearby to add movement to the shot or a better sense of scale...
As always refer to the multiple photography articles or post any questions you might have on the photography forum for better support. Maybe also post a few pictures for suggestions and critique to improve your shots wile preparing for this months contest as well.

Would do torches but they aren't as impressive as this football(american) sized wall hammer.

Hopefully this one gets included in final vote
To improve your shot and increase chances of getting into the finale, you might try cropping around the hammer to get rid of the shadowed part in the bottom right.

I don’t have facebook so I guess I can’t enter. I enjoy looking at these colors waving at me throughout the day. So I figured I’d at least share my little slice of the ocean.

That one cranky Goni is the bane of my existence. Mean while that bright yellow spot in the back left corner is an alveopora I found on the side of a button scoly that only had 2 polyps…now it has 4

You can enter but you can't win the porthole. Ya I know what's the point right? I'm the same and don't enter much anymore because I will not use social media outside this forum. You can still win and get a badge if your into that.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
