Hi - my mimic yellow died from a quick onset illness - his face began getting darker a day ago, he was lazy this morning and dead when I got home tonight. I’ve had him for about month with no issues. He ate, was active and all fish got along.

My tank is 150 gal with large sump; ph 8; temp 78; ammonia, nitrite and nitrates are virtually zero for past 4 weeks in a 8 to 10 week old tank.

Any idea what the problem is by looking at the pics? I’m a bit worried about the other fish in the tank but none have demonstrated concerns or spots.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Sorry to see . The tail suggests aggression from another tankmate and the fish appears thin.
Was it eating/eating well?
Any fish you notice harassing it and what other fish do you have in the tank?
Its hard to tell cause once fish has perished but the patches on belly may be bacterial or post mortem.

Thanks. No problems with fish aggression. I have a couple of clowns, white spotted wrasse, tang, and a blenny. Trying to stock slowly. Haven’t transferred my fish from the old tank yet
Any idea what this whitish color film on the rocks is?
Thanks

This is sponge on the rock and can bve exposed to air or injected with SMALL amounts of household vinegar safely.
I suspected another tang as an aggressor but clowns may play a role. Most fish are on their best behavior in your presence,

Interesting. All the fish swam together for the most part and I thought he was a good eater. If I’m going to lose a fish, I’ll take aggression over disease. But I am worried as a bought and dumped a bunch of copods from a new fish store last week and hoping I didn’t pick anything bad up.

Thanks for info. Appreciate your time.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
