Hello everyone,

I have had many fresh water experiences, large and small, over the years. I didn't have an aquarium in my house due to moving for the last 2 years. This time I decided to make a reef aquarium. I will be waiting for your comments and suggestions on some issues.

I will have a 120x50x40h (240 liters, 63 gallons) tank with a side sump.

I plan to have at least a tang(blue or yellow), may be a fox face (not sure if its suitable for my tank size), 2-3 Amphipron ocellaris and cleaning crew
There will be 20-25kg live rock and soft corals (may be a few easy LPS not sure about that though. Depends on the lightning I'll buy)
  • Since there will be a side sump, would Tunze 9004 be sufficient as a protein skimmer? Is it worth buying a Tunze 9012 for twice the price for this tank considering the fish I want ? Do you have any other suggestions for side sump ps
  • Is it worth to invest on import live rocks like Natures Ocean Coral Reef Rock or just buy it on local market?
  • Would approximately 2 cm of sand be sufficient?
  • Do I need to put any biological filtration media on the sump like Sera Siporax?
I plan to write the installation and post-installation steps in detail here.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
