I was wondering if I could use dead coral rubble like this instead of dry rock or live rock to start my tank? Will they fall apart over time?

That is real reef rock which just needs some life added.

I'd glue that into some amazing structures (maybe with some perspex rods for structural support) and then add some live rubble to the tank from your lfs to populate the bacteria.

Yes, but I'm not sure if after a long cycle they would achieve the same effect as live rock, and if they would disintegrate in the water
Yea as others indicated buy once cry once. Get some real live wet ocean rock and Jumpstart your biome.

Okay, thanks guys. Although the crabs and worms and other creatures that live rock brings in would make me uncomfortable.

You will get hitchhikers anyway. With real ocean live rock, many will be good!

I got hundreds of microbrittle stars, three larger ones, an urchin, 6 porcelain crabs, 6 limpets, tunicates, and more.
