This is my second "large tank" attempt my first being a standard 180 gallon that did well for a while but ended up crashing due to things caused by myself (overreaction to AEFW) and other unknown issues. Here is the link to that build for anyone interested...
Hey guys!!
quick question.. Will a pink-streaked wrasse eat pests? I've heard of them eating flatworms but what about mites and that sort of thing?
Thanks #reefsquad
I saw a picture of a juvenile Twinspot Wrasse many years ago, and for a while, I was obsessed with getting one. I never understood why they were so hard to find in the trade. After seeing them on the reef, and observing their transformations I can say that it's best to leave these striking...
I was doing my daily maintanance on my tank the other day and turned off all pumps. As i looked at my tank top down..(which i haven't done in a long time) i was pretty blown away by how good it looked and wanted to share with everyone. Here's the picture i took with my Canon T6i
Hi everyone.
My wrasse has lacked vigor in his swimming effort since I received him about a week ago. She’s a golden rhomboid fairy wrasse. She seems to have full motion in her dorsal fin, but I have yet to see any definitive motion in the causal fin.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks!
With everyone trying their hardest to QT, dip, and keep parameters perfect, it still can happen.
Pests!
Maybe bristle worms, Aiptasia, flatworms, or hair algae.
The question what do YOU use for that unexpected nuisance? there are a lot of short term cures but what would you want to put and KEEP...
Hello,
Little background, I have a community Wrasse tank with about 6 wrasses in it. 5 different types of leopard wrasse and a Radiant wrasse.
The radiant wrasse has always rubbed and itched on rocks since I got him more than any fish I have owned before. I have had him for about 8 months now...
Looking for a well established, healthy melanurus or Christmas wrasse for pickup in Los Angeles.
Don't have a quarantine system so don't want to risk a LFS fish.
Well I did it, I finally bought the tank I've wanted for the better part of a year. It gets delivered today, so I don't have any pictures for you but I can tell you what it is. The tank is a SCA 90 gallon "cube," 36"x24"x24". It's made from 1/2" Starfire glass, and I got the 36" tall wood...
Hey Guys-
I'm on about day 16 of quarantining my Golden Rhomboid Wrasse from Live Aquaria. I did a second dose of Prazipro yesterday (2ml in 8 gallons of water) and this morning I noticed it swimming very erratically, almost disoriented. The first Prazi treatment didn't really affect it at...
Hey everyone!
I am looking to add a wrasse or two into my tank. It is a mixed reef tank (softies, LPS and SPS) with a sand bottom, 110 gallon display 150 gallon total, screen lid cover 1/8" net. I have only a yellow watchman and a diamond watchman goby in there currently. I will be adding a...
I have a rare Cirrhilabrus hybrid, a pintail/crescent tail wrasse. It was initially a female, but when my male flasher wrasse decided to carpet surf, the hybrid started to change to male. Currently it's still a juvenile male, but I expect him to develop fully with some time or some female...
The Cook Islands are about half-way between Hawaii, and Australia. The largest island, Rarotonga, is surrounded by a barrier reef, so the island is circled by a protected lagoon. This first immersion video displays some of the beauty of the sea life found in the lagoon.
Most of the research I've done says that generally Melanurus are generally peaceful. Well mine is a jerk. I just put the clown tang in yesterday and don't want to take him back out unless I have to. Is there a way to curb this aggression so that they can eventually get along? The next thing I'm...
I have a Carpenter Flasher Wrasse in QT right now. He's eating LRS great right now. I've heard they need to be fed several times a day, which I'm doing right now but Later this year I won't be home to feed multiple times a day. If I have a healthy pod population do I need to feed multiple times...
As aquarium keepers, we often only get to see one phase of a fishes lifespan, and some not at all, because of size. One thing that struck me when I first went out on the reefs was the various phases of fishes, from the juveniles through various sexes and adult fish that I had never seen before...
To start, I have a small system and no QT. I got 2 new wrasses last week (7 days ago) and they went straight into the display. They have been eating well, very active, etc and today I noticed probably 2 spots of ich on each fish. Fish in my display have had it before and fought it off and I have...
Hi everyone,
My LFS just informed me they were able to get a female Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus Carpenteri), i asked them to place it on hold for me so i can go purchase it later today. This got me thinking about how they even know its a female Carpenter's Wrasse(in hopes that...
Hello!
I have a 90 gallon DT and I would love to get some wrasse. I will be adding coral in the future so I would prefer if they are coral safe, but I really wanted to get Melanurus wrasse. However, I promised the GF she could pick a wrasse for the tank. Are Melanurus wrasse compatible with...
I upgraded my tank from a 90g reef ready tank to a custom drilled 120g tank on February 8th.
Tank: Aqueon 120g (4'x2'x2') with holes drilled on the right side for a 16" Modular Marine overflow and a hole on the back for a return line.
Stand: A friend made a very sturdy and basic wooden stand...
Anyone ever see a wrasse do this? It must be some kind of mating ritual, but there were no females around, except my wife Fran, who shot this guy, she called "Wet Willie", in action. We're guessing this is a circle-cheek wrasse, anyone know for sure? This was shot in Rarotonga in the Cook...
Hi! I've had my 24 gal JBJ Nanocube up since late August/early September and I'm really enjoying this hobby. Right now I have a sixline wrasse, a black snowflake clown, and a tailspot blenny, as well as a good size cuc made up of two emerald crabs, a bunch of hermits, and a wide variety of...
Seeking advice...
I started my first QT tank with much help of @4FordFamily a while back. Anyway after reaching fully therapeutic copper levels, all my tangs (Achilles, Purple, chocolate, Blue hippo, desjardini, and a yellow) are great. I also started with 2 leopard wrasse, 2 Bluestar...
So I got a Melanurus wrasse about 3 days ago. He’s a cool fish eats well and very active with one small problem. He hides in the sand bed when my daylights are on. I work overnights so my daylights run from 130-1030pm. During this time the wrasse is hiding in the sand bed even when I feed. I’m...
I have a Lineatus Wrasse that I have had for 2-3 years. He was healthy and active last week. The rest of my fish are doing great as well as my corals.
I went away on vacation and had someone feed my tank daily, probably overfed my tank. The first day back with my lights on I noticed him lying...
