both demand light lots of it. but always start from the bottom and acclimate up to your lighting. i have my pm mid way on a 20 tall tank running 250k mh se but pretty much right under the bulb. 500 efflo same but off to the side about 6 in from the water line

perfect. i have both of them halfway up in medium flow.

Pm really like to get blasted by strong variable current, but I've seen it in tanks on the very bottom to 3" under the water line and looking great! Not sure on the efflo as I've never had one but I always see them about at mid point in tanks!

In my experience to really get that nice flat shape out of your efflo good strong flow is a must. Pm's do seem to darken up in in a good way under medium to lower light.

Are these frags of yours under halides?

Thanks for more info guys. I'll move my efflo up higher in a more higher current and light, purple monster is just off the side from direct light and is in a higher flow area. i'm seeing polyp extension so i'll leave it where it is.

My purple monster was in the bottom 2/3 in medium to high flow under 250w MH. Tank is 24" deep. It was more of a light purple. I moved it up to just above the middle of the tank and it is a deep rich purple now. I would leave it low till it encrusts a little before you start tinkering with the placement. I know people who keep them in the top 1/3 and have the deep rich purple also.

Hey SecretReefer.......sorry but I think I see a few red bugs on that PM.
yup you're correct. i assumed my tank was "sterile" of RB but after closer examination yup. nothing like a good dose of interceptor can't cure. lol after 2 treatments i'm back to being RB free. ill be updating tomorrow with a progress shot.

I moved my efflo's all over my tank looking for the best place for it. Ended up in the lower one third under a hqi 400 watt.

Nice! Yup my 500 efflo is making a strong comeback! it was a chip the size of a pencil eraser after the frag Stn'd due to a bad bad alk swing.
