Does anyone have experience with designing/building/using 80/20 or T-slot aluminum extrusion stands for tanks? I am thinking of going this way for a 40g breeder .... Input would be greatly appreciated as would design ideas.

Great question, I looked into this and sorta am still looking at it for future products.

8020.net has some apps for designing however I can't use them due to me being on a mac so you may want to have a look at those.

Here is a design I was playing around with.

Hopefully more will chime in here.

Hi mark,

Out of curiousity what profile would you recommend to support 1500lbs over a 40" span with no center brace on the front......tank dimensions would be 40x24

My Setup

Here is the way I have constructed my unit. I used the 45x45 profile. The corner brackets hold 650lbs of pressure. There are 24 brackets in this stand

Wow! That's so fresh and so clean.... Great job!

I wouldn't want to cover that up with panels.

thanks. Yea I would never cover that up. Too good to hide behind doors :p. lol But as for your build. You can use the 45x45 profile with no mid legs but 2 or 3 centre cross bars that go front to back and both on top and bottom. Or you can use 60x60 profile for that better sleep at night. On my stand there are 24 corner brackets. Each bracket holds 650lbs. Just multiply that by 24 lol. So the product is very versatile yet strong. It is expensive but this is much much better.

Let's say I wanted to set up a 24x24 cube, but wanted my stand to be 30x30 - would you have to brace it through the middle? Also, after you build the frame, do you just put a piece of plywood underneath for support?

How did you attach the white acrylic panel for the sump? I don’t understand that part. I saw you did the same
Thing on YouTube but the bottom panel doesn’t make sense.
