Welcome to Reef2Reef!!! I don't know the regulations in your area, but it is always a good idea to know what is okay to collect (sorry for the obligatory public service announcement :) ). Two of the challenges with clams is that many require a cooler aquarium (sometimes even needing a chiller for long term survival) and secondly, they are often filter feeders so getting them enough food without polluting the tank can be a challenge. Good luck!

Wild clams are a gamble. As with collector species, they filter feed. Without pics, I would be surprised if they share same care requirements.
Clams like Tricadia, maxima and others, requirements are:
Temperature not to exceed 80
Ca not to exceed 450
Ph not to exceed 8.3
Alk not to exceed 11
Salinity best at 1.025
Nitrate not to exceed.8
Moderate water flow
Good lighting

Also keep an eye out for possible parasites/hitchhikers!. I just added a few cute lil babies to mine! Good luck

My husband goes claming and I took one and added it into my tank. ....

Welcome to R2E !

Novice question: In an ideal world, should clams be quarantined? If so, for how long?

Thanks,
jim

Typical QT for clams is 10-14 days and a good scrubbing of the shell with a toothbrush once ready to place in DT.

Not a novice question at all Jim, it’s a unique animal in this hobby. Clams are notorious for bringing critters because they’re stationary, offer hiding places on the shell, and as gross as it may sound, within their body cavity also. Heck I’ve seen a gorilla crab come out of one
