I think if you can, go fan less. Less to fail, and fans suck in so much crap from the air and deposit it on the board making more problems.

With the power levels (8-15W) it’s possible though tight. I’m trying some thermal material to mount the board to the case bottom but it’s still not a lot of thermal area. Fan is under software control so we can adjust usage

Looks cool! Did you already find a fan which does not make too much noise?

What is your preferred way of mounting this "box"? Directly in the lamp or somewhere in the stand?

Much quieter and same CFM...
10db is below hearing..This is 16.. One posted is 30db..
Alternate..

Oddly draws more power and faster rpm than $11 one..
Obviously you could lower the voltage on the one ..but.

Noiseless but only 1.2CFM...

Different between 6.7mm depth and 10mm. I do have space for the 10mm of course.

On a side note, I hit on a brain wave of packing a smaller driver array (4-6ch) + a led panel in the same exact case, using a similar end cap fan cooling solution. Easy since the bottom panel is removable - that becomes the splash screen by using acrylic or diffuser material. More on that elsewhere :)

I was wondering about that end cap comment you made earlier but now I see it! I like this idea.

Do you already have a functional prototype for testing?

Prototype is undergoing testing and hand-modification for improved versions :)

Errata so far:

- Fan can't be PWMed
- Over the air upgrade SPI flash can't be used as connected
- Power supply compensation network layout and part error

Nothing unexpected really

Wondering if there’s been any more progress on this design?

[time warp]

I've been focusing on building this out with some LEDs in a complete package, so not yet. The original design however does work, but is due for a round of simplification and just letting the ESP32 run the PWM.

Still working on this? I'm curious why you think it would be better to use the ESP32 for PWM instead.
