Hey guys! I'm looking to drill an overflow into a 48x24 50 gallon frag tank by zoo med and have it connected to a sump. I'm currently trying to estimate costs for my project and the only part that I'm stuck on is rough costs for plumbing. How much can I expect to spend on pipes and other bits and bobs such as unions, valves ect. 50-100, 100-200 ect.

Depends on how elaborate you want to get. Hard plumb? Gate valve? Manifold? Or just rubber hose, ball valves and some clamps.

It depends on brand also. You can spend $20 - $50 for a true union ball valve.

When I set up my fijicube 50G a few years ago, hard plumbed with a manifold, spears gate valve, multiple unions and gate valves, it was easily +$500, maybe closer to $1k. Granted, I purchased everything from BRS and I think there valves are probably on the expensive side.

I spent right around $300 through BRS plumbing a 40 breeder into a 20 L sump. There's definitely cheaper routes if appearance is less important than budget. What I did, and would suggest, is sat down and drew out both tanks and how I wanted to plumb it - size of pipes, unions, valves, elbows, everything... and then redid it a few times over a week or so. You can then use your schematic as a rough parts list and get an idea of cost. I ordered 1 extra of each joint/union, and wound up using several of the 'extras' and had a few left over.

You can also affect cost by going ABS vs Sched 80, buying white PVC from your local hardware store, etc.
