So when you put them together, the bigger one will probably still try to atack the smaller one. I would let it out after they stop paying attention to each other, or stop trying to kill the little one

just observe behavior,would start with idea of 4-6 days ,but be ready to put back if not ready

yes ,use a bowl w lid with plenty of holes in it,use someting like chunk of styro to float it,your in chi town,you can find an isolation box/breeder box pretty quick;)
Yes, any decent size 'food safe' container that you can put plenty of holes in, place it in an area that still gets a little flow so the water in the container doesn't get stagnant

Clear sides would help the fish see each other and get used to sharing the space / let them continue the submissive/dominate dances as well
