So I'm cutting that down by 1/3 right out of the gate.
It's much more than that. The cross sectional area of a 1" sch40 PVC pipe (I.D. is 1.049") is 0.864". A 1.5" (I.D. is 1.61") cross section is 2.03". That's 2.3 x the area. I'd bet that replacing the 1" with 1 1/2" would show a sizeable increase. :)

But what about the overflow where it jumps down to 3/4" at the base?
The 1-1/2" would have to convert down to 3/4".

And the flow meter itself is 1".

The resistance is cumulative (return pipe plus the 3/4" bulkheads). Do you have unions in line with your overflow? It would be interesting to be able to put together a quick test run of inch and a half to check the improvement.

No, not where I'd be able to really change the pipe easily.

Annnnd.... I just started running nano microbubbles. :D

Been wanting to try this out for awhile.
I figure since my tank has been going through some issues lately, it could use all the help it can get.
And I haven't seen anything negative come of it so why not give it a shot.

Going to try 10pm to 4am and see how it goes.

@Diesel still on the nano bubble train?

One funny thing to note already...

I haven't had enough flow through the fuge to keep the macros tumbling.
Well within minutes, there were tiny bubbles stuck all over the macros and now they are spinning with gusto.

I've been looking to start microbubbles myself. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on it!

Here's my nasty display with what looks like diatoms everywhere.
And ticked off coral, especially the sps... dull dull dull. :(
At least the brown snot and other nuisance algae is gone.

A while back i had some issues with what I think was elevated alk levels combined with too little nutrients. Many sps had dead tips and algae growth on the dead portions. It felt like it took months to get back on track. Maybe these issues take a little time to clear up and the good to show up again.

I met an sps keeper recently that was using nano bubbles in his tanks and his sticks were beautiful! But he does so many other things that its hard to tell what good comes from it. I will be following to see your results.

You have inspired me to revamp my tank. Found a guy breaking his setup down and got a hellofadeal on his lights and controller. I'm got my lights set up and I'm loving them, but haven't got the controller hooked up. I'm going to move in a month, so I'm going to buy a 70-90 gallon tank to put everything in while I take some time to rebuild. The new house is only down the road, so I should be good there. Any good advice from all of these pros on here?

Interested in your take on micro bubbles. I currently run them every time I forget to top off the tank. :D

I've been running micro bubbles for a few months now, did a little test and was amazed at the slime and gunk that floated to the top, run it for about eight hours after lights out. I think my corals really love the bubble bath. I've also been dosing vibrant for GHA, no cyano like others have been complaining about, maybe the bubbles have kept it at bay, since I've read that it can help rid your tank of cyano. now just started Flucon for a mild case of bryopsis before it gets out of hand and the list goes on, but thank goodness for R2R

So, what's your main goal with the micro-bubbles? I've heard of the technique but never really dove into it. Always seems like someone is claiming they resolve some other issue. It's like the garlic of tank maintenance.
