Hey everyone, I just purchased a Watanabei angel and just after 24 hours (added her yeaterday morning to the QT/Hospital tank) her eye looks like this right now, it was perfectly normal yesterday, this happened so quickly... I'm not currently dosing any medication at all in the the QT..
I was thinking of doing a 5 minute freshwater dip just to make sure there are no additional flukes or whatever then a 90 minute Acriflavine MS bath, then was wondering what the best combination of antibiotic would be for her? I currently on hand have MetroPlex, KanaPlex, Focus, General Cure, and Furan-2... going to order some NFG today and hopefully get it in the next few days..
What do you guys think?

Sounds like you have a good plan, 5 min FW dip to check for flukes, 90 min Acriflavine bath, then Metro,Kanaplex,Furan 2. NFG would be better if you’ll have it sooner than later. Don’t forget you can dose Epsom Salts also for the swelling.

5 minute freshwater dip and there is nothing on her.. no flukes at all... nothing fell off of her.. So she is currently in an Acriflavine MS bath as of 4:15pm at a dosage of 1mL per Gallon.

Can you share a link with instructions for Epsom Salts? Can i dose the Epsom salts to the QT? Or only bath?

No you dose to the QT. if I remember correctly it’s 1 TSP per 5 gallons. Make sure you use pure USP Epsom salts (no perfumes, etc). Let’s double check that dosage though. @ngoodermuth

Is it okay to mix Epsom salts with antibiotics?

I just found one of HF old posts and it is one Tablespoon per 5 gallons and you should be ok doing the first dose as you start ABX’s. By any chance do you have erythromycin? I know that is tremendously effective with eyes.
Maybe @ngoodermuth or @Big G will chime in.

Maracyn is the brand name, otherwise all good advice given already :)
Agree.

@Coral Keeper My only fear is this secondary to flukes. Since the fish is so new to you. It could have been dewormed wherever it came from with a single dose of prazi.

Have you started antibiotics yet?

Not yet, I just got home from the LFS
Bought some Epsom salt and dosed that already and I also bought some mardel maracyn (erythromycin).
Should I dose the erythromycin right now?

Epsom salt is a single dose.
Go ahead and dose, it's just magnesium. No harm no foul. Might help.

I would dose the erythromycin now as well as general cure if you have it.

That is a full force attack on both the infection and possible cause all at once.

Stay on directions for erythromycin. Then do a 25% WC and then a second dose of GC 7 days from initial dose.

Okay, so I was thinking about giving the Epsom salt 24 hours to see if it helped or before adding the antibiotics and GC.. seems like it's either a tinnnyyyy bit better if not the same? (Wishful thinking that it's better?)
Looks like something is peeling off? What are your thoughts?

Going to dose the antibiotics tonight wait a few hours then add the general cure.. it's not toooo hard on the fish when doing both right? Or should I do antibiotics first then when finished do the GC?

This is her last night. Before any treatment was done for her.

This is her after a 5 minute freshwater dip, 90 minute Acriflavine MS bath then 24 hours of Epsom salt, that is all, no antibiotics or GC yet... she does look a bit better? Opinions?

Having lost a wrasse recently to arrival with a double eye infection, i would not wait on treatinf. I started antibiotics as soon as acclimated and epsom salt a few hours later. the fish did not make it to day 3. Infections and parasites can move very quickly :(.

Hope your fish gets well soon!
