Alright - I've seen the "light" :D

Looking for a used/cheap UV.

How are the Petco UV lights? They have one rated to 50G for 24.99, but I'd imagine it is as good as the price (read: cheap).

I used those when I first started out but just so I could use it and return it while I waited for my aqua UV to come in. I run UV 24/7 for over two years now.

I think you'll be surprised how fast even a 3 watt unit will clear up your tank. Should be a pretty big difference within a couple days assuming that it is in fact a bacterial bloom.

hope it works out well for you. do you think you will always have to have a UV on it? or is this just a temp problem and in a few weeks take out the UV. good luck

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!

I've been running the UV for a couple days now and it is notably clearer! I'll get a shot here in a few.

Thanks to everyone for their help and all the ideas!

Congrats, looks like the UV killed off enough of the bacteria to let the skimmer pull it out? FWIW, I suspect the algae like stuff on the back right wall is bacterial in nature too. Can't see it well enough in the pic, but have had some that generally looked like that before.

Yep - it is the bacterial stuff still. I'm still running the UV - and will be until all of it goes away.

The skimmer has been going nuts, too.

I'll bet. I have a UV on my 180 that feeds into the skimmer, and it works well for me. Its not big enough to kill everything, but I like how it feeds the skimmer enough to keep the parameters in check. I definitley notice the difference in skimmate when its off.

They kill bacteria, and with a filter sock on their output, collect the dead ones, clearing the water.

Cool to see how fast the UV cleared things up.
I have never been one to avidly put one into My filtration however I may re-think this philosophy of Mine.

Cool frag tank as well !

Congrats dude !
