Finally have mine installed and running for about 2 weeks now. Signature series LF1-200S, for a 185 gallon tank with a 24" Reefgium with it. Will try to get some better pictures with more lighting with the reefgium light going it does make it glow a nice green.

Uploaded a few more, showing withe the lights on and off. Cleaned the skimmer also. The quality of the sump is superb. Mine is in the basement using a blueline HD100 running it back to the tank above. A MAG 9 is feeding the Media Reactors, only needed 2. Third one is a spare. Have a LCR1 (Calcium Reactor) on the way also which will complete the setup. The Large white Elbow in the Reefgium is for a crab, that I have not been able to get rid of, he came on some rock and well for some reason could not flush him, and no it not the small one in the picture in the front. The crab is over 6 inches long..

Just hooked up my bioreactor as a co2 scrubber last night it seems to be working great. I do wish I had gotten two bio reactors though as it is just a standard fluidized reactor design. I am not in love with the regular media reactor cylinder with a hole in the bottom design as I am struggling to keep the media submerged and have found I need to use 2-3 times as much media as I did in my phosban to achieve the same results. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to run the reactor differently? I have tried adjusting the flow from a trickle to as much flow as can move through the 1/2" tubing with no success.

Maybe if you have some bioballs laying around, you could put some on the top section of the cylinder, with the media placed in a mesh bag?

Have you asked Jeff about what the issue might be? I ordered two reactor's as well and he suggested to me to have them run on there own pump. Which is exactly what I've ended up ordering but I'd like to know if you've managed to figure out the issue. You could also cut a piece of foam filter to fit within the reactor to keep the media down. Would be easy to remove, clean and you could use it over and over again.

I haven't contacted Jeff yet but I did stuff the cylinder full of filter floss and it seems to help. I'm gonna run it like this for a few weeks and see if it helps. If not I'll give Jeff a call and let you guys know what he says

Custom Sump - based on the CLF1, two bio-media (up-flow) reactors, 12 inch Liferefugium, SVS3-24 skimmer. All in his Signature Series Green/Black.

Note: This is not the exact final configuration. I'm still fiddling with / replacing some of the fittings on the refugium.

Late to the party. Heres my monster skimmer. It skims like nothing i have ever seen. It does such a good job, I have to dose nitrates.

Beautiful stuff guys. People say lifereef stuff is unattractive, but with proper cord management and,if the acrylic is kept clean, I actually find most of these lifereef sumps and skimmers to be display quality.

I recently joined the club. Lifereef has long been one of those "apex predator" type brands that I feel to be the cream of the crop when it comes to quality, but it has always been way out of my price range. I just landed a used SVS2-24" that I couldn't pass on. If you total up the amount of money I've spent on every skimmer I've owned, and how much I've made in selling them, I'm at about -$75 at this point. So all said and done, I essentially have myself a lifereef for under a hundred bucks, and for that, I cannot complain. No...it's not as attractive as one of the newer Svs 3 flanged units with the colorful Venturi cover, but that's ok. I'm after the performance.

Installation was not without pitfalls but it's running flawlessly now. This is what skimmate it has pulled in 48 hours since setup. Forgive the mess. I don't have a display sump. My sump has actually never been cleaned once in the 3.5 years it's been running. Love the skimmer

90 gallon display 36 gallon sump. Heavily stocked on fish. 14 total (2 adult tangs, adult foxface, and a bunch of smaller fish) sps dominant.

I run the Venturi intake to a co2 scrubber hanging on the back of the sump, and the co2 scrubber air intake to the collection cup barb. So it's in a continuous loop with the co2 scrubber. Ph is between 8.2-8.4 and dead silent.

Awesome! What pump are you running with it?
I had the standard mag 9 that Jeff pairs with it for the last 6 months but just put a sicce synchra 5 on it.

There was nothing wrong with the mag 9 but like the rest of us am always seeking something of an improvement even when there’s nothing wrong.

The sicce is kicking butt a litttle more and I think a great match for this skimmer.

I'm running a Jebao DCP 10000 which has a flow max of 2,600 or so. Running it at 80% with a single 90 degree turn as well as about a foot of height I would estimate so that should be in the 1300-1500 gph range based on their specs

Anyone switch from a "premium" skimmer like a Nyos, BK, Deltec, etc., to a Lifereef? If so, how does it compare?

Any idea how many watts this is using? I'm more concerned about adding heat than the power use.

Thanks!

My first LR skimmer was after a Vertex Alpha 250 that I hated.

That I don't know my apex is old so I'm not sure it'll tell me that. But even with it being a D.C. Pump my temp is up a degree

Bpb - thanks for the feedback!

I don't really need to change skimmers but I can't help looking!

Based on a lot of what has been written on this post and additional research, I am planning to replace the skimmer that comes with the Red Sea Reefer immediately after receiving the tank. The C-Skim 1800 seems like a total waste of effort. It has some interesting features but from my research it's not worth keeping.
