Hey everyone! I'm new to this whole thing; that being part of a forum as well as having a piece of the ocean of my own. I've had fresh water tanks ever since i could remember, my dad always said salt water tanks are too difficult and expensive to up keep but that was just a lame excuse for not making time to take care of it and taking on the challenge (yes i know it's difficult and can get expensive). I've always been a fan of marine life ever since i was a little kid; i love learning about it and would love having this as a hobby of mine. my cousins are the ones who really got me interested when i saw how well their tanks have flourished with life and i want to start my own. i was given a previously used tank in which i cleaned with fresh water and scraped off all the algae with a razor blade. The tank is i want to say a 33 gallon standard even though i was told a 29. i have the old sand but I'm going to get some fresh stuff from the local shop since i found some good sized worms in the sand. i also found a hermit crab that's still alive so i have him sitting in some of the old water and sand with a baby shrimp chilling so i want to get the tank going so i can keep him alive. i'll also get fresh saltwater to fill the tank for my first fill up. Should i get a good light now, or get that once i get the live rock and my chemicals in the water all sorted out? when everything is set i would like to start with a couple zoa frags, a couple clowns, a shrimp, and some hermits. the more i learn the more compatible stuff i'd like to add to my marine aquarium of course, i just want to do this the right way, i want my tank to thrive and grow. any suggestions? please i love hearing people's opinion, thanks!
