I have a 80 gallon with a 40 breeder sump at 100g total volume. Tank is 1 1/2 yrs old. I Dosed soda ash for alk but sand started getting really hard so I switched to sodium biocarbinate around 6 months ago. Just got over a Dino outbreak and Dino x or at least I think I’m over it. Anyway, someone told me to try Kalk to help avoid Dino’s so I’m using 2 tsp per gallon of Kalk in ato and levels dropped from 9.5 to 8.2 in 24 hrs. So I turned doser back on with 2 part. Now 24 hrs later my alk dropped from 9.4 down to 8.9 dkh. Doser is set at 12ml 10x a day so 120ml per day of sodium biocarbinate. Question is is this a normal amount of daily consumption for a low stocked mixed reef tank. No colonies just frags and 6 month old frags. A lot of corralline algae though. I have some hard sand also that’s why I’m concerned. But it could be hard sand I didn’t fully get out a few months back when was having the issue with soda ash. Should I stop the Kalk dosing and just stick with 2 part like I know. There just seems to be many benefits to Kalk.

Yes Every day. Every night I test all and have to always manually dose to bring it back to target. Don’t get me wrong I have corralline growing like mad. What can I do about this?

Why do you mean when you say you use powder? I use brs 2 part in powder form when I get it then I turn to liquid.

Using this calculator:

i determined that 120 mL a day is 0.85 dKH per day in your tank.

That is not a high dose. Middling to low.

The kalkwaser raised pH and increased demand. Not sure how much you added so can't get the actual alk dosed.

Which Seachem calcium? There is one (Seachem reef Calcium) that I recommend against using. It also adds alkalinity, but no one can say how much alk because it depends on what happens to the polygluconate part of the product in your aquarium. Seachem does not seem to realize the problem with this product, despite being told many years ago.

Are you asking if a teaspoon every other day is "crazy"? Not sure why it could be crazy. That's about 0.5 dKH per day and is on the low side.
