Is Goniopora the new hot coral?

Do they throw out long sweepers or have a lot of chemical warfare?

They don’t have sweepers
IMO no chemical warfare
However very sensitive and don’t like anything touching them or they retract. Also if you move them they can get annoyed and take days to weeks to adapt to the new spot

I tried and failed miserably with gonis for years, I just recently acquired one to see if my luck has changed. I figure since there are more aquacultured out there versus wild caught, they may of adapted better to reef tanks.

This has been my experience and still is. My last batch about year ago were all cultured and withered away one at a time. Last to go was a piece of the ORA red (so I was told), it lasted almost 6 months. I've added them to the ever growing list of things I can't keep

I did, mostly reef roids. I also flood my tank with frozen when I feed fish and have a lot of particulate food blowing around. I even tried them in other tanks with different parameters and lighting. I had similar losses with alveopora. I just quit trying certain corals after a few losses and move on to things I can keep alive. I have never been able to keep euphilia either along with a few others.

We have found that it is better to feed indirectly or essentially dirty the water with particulate foods like reef roids. Way easier to do in a facility like our where we can do big water changes whenever we need but I get away with this in my home aquarium by turning off my return pump, feeding the gonis with the particulate food and then doing a large water change.
If you just blast the gonis with a reef roids slurry like you were feeding an lps we noticed they do not really benefit much as the polyps retract and stay retracted.

I have been seeing all kinds of different crazy named goniopora. And at crazy prices sometimes. Is that the new hot coral? I just back in the hobby a few months ago and I was just wondering.

I think part of it is the fact that now that they have been around a bit they are a bit more hardy. Before people had a real hard time keeping them alive
