I know it's a strange question but is there an actual purple Montipora Capricornis available in the trade or are they all the Montipora Undata Idaho Grapes. I bought a "Purple Montipora Capricornis" a while back in hopes of grafting it onto some red montipora Capricornis but it turned out to be another Montipora Undata Idaho Grape.

There definitely is. We don't have one right now though...

Here’s a beautiful example of a purple /orange Monti Cap fusion growout from a former customer of mine. Interestingly, I never saw them graft colors.

What we call Montipora capricornis in the hobby are actually other species of plating/foliose Montipora, such as M. aquituberculata, M. foliosa, M. deliculata, or M. crassituberculata. True capricornis are usually purple, and have a rough coenosteum but no papillae or tuberulae.

Could you explain that in plain terms please. Not everyone knows what the coenosteum, papillae, or tuberulae are lol.

Coenosteum is the area between the corallites. In Montipora, tuberculae are bumps on the coenosteum that are larger than the polyps, and papillae are bumps that are smaller than the polyps.
