I just noticed this circular injury or hole on my fish. Noticed it tonight. Is it an injury? Stress? A disease? Thank you for any help or suggestions

He is as normal as can be. Out in the open, dominant fish in tank. Always eating. Seems normal other than that mark. I just noticed it.

Hopefully Jay sees the thread as I’ve tagged him. Not the best medical guy sorry. As long as he is eating and acting normal he should be strong enough for things not too get worse if attended

When I see a round ulcer like that, I think bacterial (as that as how colonies of bacteria grow). Do you have another tang in the tank that could have swiped at it?

Hi Jay, no other tangs, I do have a snowflake eel that the tang is constantly shadowing. He does not like the eel. The eel usually ignores him.

If it is bacterial, what steps should I take? I have never had any luck with QT tanks. Is there medicine to give in food? Fish is very friendly and easy to navigate.

Also will mention, I have a bubble tip anomie recently added about 2 weeks ago, the fish will try and grab its food from time to time.

Unlikely that it is a sting from the anemone, (more likely that would be near the mouth) but maybe?

This looks superficial to me - if you don't see secondary symptoms (rapid breathing, not eating, lethargy) and if the lesion doesn't grow larger, I would be inclined to just watch it for now.

Something you can do is use Kanaplex. Coat the fish’s food in that, and once the fish injests the food it can start fighting the infection from the inside, but only if it gets worse. Continue monitoring him

Thank you! I will add some garlic to the fish food and watch. Is metroplex with focus an option if it gets worse? I do have a ton of snails, shrimp and crabs. Along with corals and such.

Update. The area has not really changed. Looks the same, the fish is acting normal. Area looks to be not growing. Just weird

If it is stable, I would just watch it.

As a side note: various mentions were made about mixing medications and garlic into food. Don’t do that unless you calculate the dose properly! We have two files in the sticky section of the fish disease forum that describes how to do that correctly.
