My tank is three months old, this was taken at around 1.5 months. To the OP: I think you're off to a good start, but you asked for opinions and personally I would ditch the artificial plants and the brightly colored pebbles, neither of which actually exist in tropical salt water environments. The only plants that grow in tropical salt water are all various forms of algae, so for someone like myself who has dived extensively in tropical locations, your plants & pebbles jumped out at me immediately as things that did not belong. (Smooth pebbles suggest very high consistent flow such as a river or stream, not an ocean). Also, I would not let your rocks touch your glass. One unlucky tap and you could have everything on the floor (same concept as those special tiny hammers you can get to break your windshield in an emergency).

Peas,
Barry

Edit: upon closer inspection I see your pebbles are not smooth, but still the bright blue color is not at all natural in my experience.

Rocks are not on glad 2 inch clearance and yeah I plan to remove the plastic out of the tank and the pebbles we're put in to keep my sand from moving during moves I was moving a lot the past year I'm in my permanent home so I plan on changing the sand completely when I'm back from vacation
But thanks

Hi There! So the first pic is my newest tank, its a 90gl. Its been set up about a month. It has two percula clowns, a foxface, and a juvenile orangeshoulder tang. No sump, running a 3 chamber canister with LED's. I dont have any of the more high tech equipment some other hobbists have....top off my tank on my own, mix my own salt water, check my own levels. As a newbie I want to be as hands on as possible so I am learning from the ground up. I will be adding a wrasse and a cple other fish to this tank in the next month or so. At this point my plan is for this one to be a fish only tank.

The second tank Ive had set up about 7 months. Ive just started adding anemone's, mushrooms, polyps, and sponges. So far so good! Again, no sump. Do all my own checks, top offs, and such. I am running a skimmer on this one but turn it off for 24hrs when ever I add zooplex. My biggest luxury on this is that my LED has a timer. This tank has 3 chromis, 2 o. clowns, coral beauty, flame angel, and a cbs.

Im really enjoying myself. And starting small is great....you always have something a little bigger and a little better to work towards.

Happy Reefing!

Fake corals ?
I did put a few in just to add a little color and appease my little girl until the coralline algae starts coming in. One night in the next few weeks it (and those awful plastic plants in the back) will magically disappear.

Tacky I know....

Mine has been up since Feb of this year. I bought all live rock and sand, pushed things along and tank cycled in 4 months. Started adding corals and fish. (!Attention Tang Police! My blue hippo tang is no bigger then my clown and gets plenty of swimming room! The yellow tang is temporally being housed in my tank until owner gets his tank set up from a move, thank you)

My 45 gallon tank has some live rock and some fake rock.I am going to replace the fake rock with more live rock.my ammonia was 0.25.My general hardness was 180.My carbonate hardness(alkalinity)was 180.Nitrite and nitrate were both at zero. After I switch the fake rock with more live rock could I start adding some fish.
