I'm always trying to give my acantho & trachys space. But after seeing your tank, maybe I should squish them together!
Yeah I was always a little nervis at first but have never seen aggression. Just don’t try Lobos or acans !

What about scoly and Cynarina ? I’m suspecting my scoly is feeling a little threatened / aggressive

I tried elevating it to get it in a different section of water current but not helping. (See tank shot, left side) F935C0AB-91E8-41E4-9F68-7736ABCFB668.jpeg F58725C9-B393-4DD7-99D5-A9D54549E5D0.jpeg 9A95AB3E-A9EE-4F2D-A190-030C5B697264.jpeg 37FDCAF6-A741-4674-9CDD-3EF1EC1738F5.jpeg

No to scolys being placed close … They will attack the cynarina and acanthophyllia and likely trachys also

I’d give them a few inches of space for sure just to play it safe.
(Says the guy that has 2 small Galaxea corals 6” away from his precious acanthos haha)

Impressive collection!
Thanks , it’s a work in progress.

Likely gonna be making room on the sand of this system to dedicate it to acantho and other donut corals.
Gotta be careful right now with a few Lobos, bubble coral and elegance getting in the way haha

I have Acantho Cynarina and Indophyllia all touching without issue. They seen to be all peas in a pod. I also have Trachy and Rock flower annemones all touching the aforementioned tri without issue.

Yeah acanthos, cynarinas, indos, and trachys get along together. But scolys, lobos (the other common sandbed corals) can be an ugly situation.
I do have RFs near my acanthos, but I don’t think I’d worry about them if they were. They don’t pack much punch.

Any try plate corals near their donuts?

Ok I have rearranged. I swapped the upset Aussie scoly and the pastel Cynarina. Now the 2 scoly are together and the Cynarina are together.

Mail me an acantho and I will tell you my secrets!

I use iPhone with the clip on orange lens. I am not sure if some brands are better than others, but the brand I use is by reefin art and it’s on Amazon

If my lens attachment is upstairs with my nano; I will sometimes hold up my fritz coral viewing sunglasses. It works the same but you need to hold them up right against the iPhone camera

For most accurate pictures I find I need my two blues channels and UV/purple turned up about 50%. Red and green channels at 0. White at 0 for most pop, or white around 3% for most accurate photos

Here is lens vs glasses using these settings
Blues / UV 50%
White - 3%

Oh also important. No ambient light around tank. Night time so no light from outside, windows, nothing. No other lights on in the room or anywhere around the tank.

The different devices affect the sand bed color and some coral shades a little differently, but most of the corals are similar, And near replica of in person viewing

I had two plates and bought a third which I placed in between the first two. Within a few days all 3 looked unhappy and I ended up having to give them an inch or two of space. No sweepers but they didn’t even seem to like physically touching each other.

I suppose thought that this is skeleton touching skeleton while meats usually only have flesh touching? Either way my plates don’t seem to like to touch any other corals

I don’t know, I try not to let most things touch. I do feel plates are a difficult coral, I’ve had several die for seemingly no reason. But, I do have a baby plate, approx 3/4” and it is doing really good. When I got it, it was 1/2” so it doesnt sound like much but its 50% bigger in a month. And when it’s this small, differences are noticeable to me. Maybe the key is having it be tank raised ?

Long tentacle plates seem to be the most sensitive

Yeah they are a funny coral. I had 3 in my system. Out of the 3 a really nice orange species decided to give up the ghost for no reason whatsoever, other 2 were a green and greyish-blue colouration and do fine.

And agreed. I will never buy a long tentacle plate again, too finicky.

Yeah. Was always just curious. Never seen sweeper tentacles , but they aren’t the most interesting coloured corals and can be annoying if they start to move
