Hi all! New to the forum officially, but a long time lurker. I’m from Michigan but currently live in DC.
I joined the hobby many years ago when I lived in Florida and had a 55 gallon reef tank. I was a grad student (in marine biology) and had very little money so I scraped by with some of the cheapest gear I could find. Sold that tank when I moved to DC about six years ago and now my gf has gifted me a 32 gallon bio cube. I’m SO excited to get back into the hobby - and now I have real adult funds so it’s a little less stressful and I have more options.
I’m looking forward to being part of this forum and learning from you all!!

p.s. if a moderator reads this - DC isn’t an option for a state when you register to join.

Welcome to R2R from a fellow Marine Bio grad. :D Happy to have you here and can't wait to see your biocube up and running! Merry Christmas!

good bye hello GIF
I love having my own little slice of ocean just for me. I’m also going to try doing an all aquacultured tank if I can swing it.

Thank you! I defffffinitely will be asking questions. So much has changed just in the 6/7 years I’ve been out of the hobby!!
Other than captive bred what do you plan on stocking ?

I’ve always wanted to do a geographical region specific build .
for example everything from Red Sea , or Indonesia or even all from Australia

I have a friend who had really elaborate fw tanks and did regional ones that always looked so cool.
Still kind of scoping out what I’d like and what’s available. clownfish pair for sure. I’m kind of boring but I really just like the original plain old orange non fancy clowns. Thinking also about a court jester goby or two. Id like something for the water column but not sure what yet.
I’ll do just a normal cuc - although I’m thinking of trying to avoid hermit crabs this time if possible. May potentially look into a serpent star or an urchin (although I know they can relocate things).
For corals I’m sticking to softies and potentially some LPS. I’d like to try to stick to the stock lights and hood for now, so we will see if I can manage LPS with that.

Serpents are cool , I have 3 of them
I’ve always hated urchins for their bulldozing behaviour , and hermits are just a holes .
