Salinity Monitor for Mixing Station

For those with a mixing station, how do you continuously monitor your salinity in your mixing brute/containers?

I mix 1/2 cup salt to every gallon of water. Then test the morning of the change to see where I'm at. I adjust from there and allow a little more mixing time.

Just easily see what the salinity in the mixing container is without having to actually use my Milwaukee Tester. HAHA.

Once mixed, if you have a tight fitting lid(brute lids in my case), evap isn't a concern and salinity normally doesn't change like your tank does.

Let say for example, I mix 15g of saltwater at 1.025 SG then only use 10g, then I add 10g of rodi to the mixing container, I would have diluted my salt, I just wanted an easy way to know exactly at that moment how much salt to add. Also, I have vertical storage containers which is hard to take water out of to test small samples..

Got you now. Other then the typical 1/2C per gallon, it's hard to say. I like the hanna salinity pen for this very reason. Just drop it in, and it gives me the salinity quickly and easily.

I mix in a 42G brute, and always have leftover(probably a couple gallons) but use all that I can. I just use a little less salt then I normally would, then test and adjust from there.

I think you'll find most of us that have mixing stations use it all, then mix a fresh batch, not mix half batches(so to speak). As your finding out, it would be to hard to figure out the salinity correctly(you'll always be guessing).

Well reasonably, if you add an additional 10g of RODI, you should add 5 cups of salt (1/2 per gallon) to get it back to equilibrium of 1.025 SG.
