I think pretty much most of us have the base idea for collecting RO water and mixing saltwater but for me the last thing is to try to automate the salt dispensing system without too much industrial equipment. What I need is to either create a slurry delivery system since salt will turn into a brick over time absorbing moisture. Maybe use an old ATO system but have the apex pump the salt slurry based on my Conductivity probe. reading over time.

The inserts are uni seals used this setup for over 3 years no leaks. You don't need to glue them they are made to seal by pushing in the pvc

Clear tubing is on pvc fitting made to push on tubing. I used the same thing as spouts on the valves. All the pvc was bought at lowes. I don't remember where I got the uni seals, I think the came from brs

Interesting idea on the automated system to add a salt slurry. It pains me to add the salt scoops by hand to the RO/DI water for mixing. I was thinking of a hopper system that adds the salt mix to the RO/DI water. When I add too much mix at one time I can hear the impeller grinding the salt mix. I would had to prematurely wear out the impeller over time. I was even thinking of making a DIY hour glass contraption so that the salt is added slowly to water giving it time to dissolve before it passes the impeller. My salt water mixing tank is small at 16 gallons. I am planning on buying some 32 gallon brute cans or 55 gallon drums soon.

That is why I used the clear tubing as a site glass. I put marks every 5 gallons.

Nice touch! I used 3" uni seals on my set up*note they are a bear to install, but will conform to the round in a barrel.I found a how to install thread,...spray with some Pam...don't think I could have got them in without it. FWIW ;)

In my opinion this should be as robust as possible to give you options. My system has 2 different configurations....

A) A Renew continuous water changing system
B) The ability to mix 55 gallons and bring it on-line after draining 55 gallons of existing tank water
C) The ability to draw buckets of RO/DI water or Saltwater

You run the system in either configuration (but not both) but the beauty is you never have to touch a bucket. In addition, my sink has it's own RO/DI spiget on the sink for cleaning the test vials. We are not up and running with this sytem yet. However, I designed the system to be as automated or as manual as I need. I plan on running it 99% of the time using the Renew water changing system.

Here are some pics.... It's hard to photograph because it's in a fish room and located behind the 400 gallon display. Here are my best attempts at pics....

After hours of searching on the web I still can't find water storage tanks like these. Where did you get them?

Update. added a DOS and Changed the Dual Headed Stenner out for a single head model. It fills up my ATO container. Dos isn't completely setup as I have to run a longer USB to the tank. Fully Changed over to ME Chemicals. Will never use anything else. Marks 3 Part is amazing.

Won't a high-concentration seawater slurry precipitate calcium carbonate at a high rate while it's being held for dosing? I've used a slurry situationally before, but only in a drip that was to last less than an hour. I didn't experiment with longer drip periods though.

Definitely an intriguing problem.

Good question. I really don't know since I haven't been able to try it. Ultimately the question would be to test how uniform a slurry can be over time and how much water can be used.
