Hey guys, have a shipping question. I went to fedex today to ship a friend some corals from my frag tank. I'm in ca and he's on the east coast. I only shipped 5 corals at 9lbs total and the shipping came out to $151.
This was my first time shipping corals and assumed it would be like 50 bucks.
Anyone have any advice for cheaper methods?

Really unless you have a business account with FedEx or UPS this is going to be what the average hobbyist would normally pay especially from the West Coast to the East Coast and for that amount of weight.

I was afraid of that. Seems like even with a business account I doubt it would drop by 50% ?

With a business account it depends on volume and how much you're going to be shipping, high-volume allows you to negotiate a better rate, so the answer is yes or no.

Yea because of the east to west coast shipping this is how much it would be around...

Not to add salt to the wound but I have a business account and I also sometimes shipped through my employers FedEx account. I don't have the volume with my own business account that my employer does with their account, so the ship overnight to someone normally cost me about $18 for 5/10 pounds, if I tried that with my own business account it's $45.

Wow that's quite a difference. Unfortunately my employer doesn't ship anything so I'm on my own.
