I need a little help from all you DIY people out there. I'm going to be setting up a new tank. I bought a Marineland 93g cube. I'm going to put it directly in the corner of my living room. My question is do you think the beams in my flooring will be able to support the weight of that tank over a long period of time?

My thinking is the face that it's in the corner of the house is that it will have a little more support due to the foundation of the house and the beams, but I really have no clue. It's just my assumption.

Do you think I'll need to put in a floor jack just in case or not?

You will be fine, your house will hold up much more weight than what that tank will put on the floor.

First question, how old is the house?
Second question, how big are the floor trusses and how far spaced apart?

93g is 790lbs + Sump

Agreed shouldn't have any issues at all.... Your feet put more pressure in a little area than that tank will. Being in a corner also is very strong so you can't go wrong there...;)

The joists are 2x10 and are 16" on center. The tank would be 10' from a load bearing wall in the basement as well. My house was built in 1993.

Thanks for the replies. I'm actually going to build my stand slightly larger than the tank so it would be 36" square. It will be resting on two joists for sure.

Here do the math... Let's say 100gal of water that weighs roughly 850 pounds... Now you have a 30x30 foot print that equals 75 sq inches.... So your looking at a tad over 10pounds per square inch... Or 240 pounds per square foot...

36x36 you would have 94.5 pounds per square foot... If you can stand on one foot without falling through your good lol:tongue:
