This is my gravity overflow for my 75 gal tank and it works great for me. My tank is not drilled so this is the way I had to go. It’s a diy overflow.

What size sump does everyone recommend for my 180 gallon? I was looking at the Trigger system Ruby Sump 36. As I have a vertex alpha 170 protein skimmer and a fluval sp6 3434 gph pump. Thanks.

Question on plumbing and parts
I got threaded bulkheads and I’m planning on hard plumbing my sump.
I’ve been looking at pics and want to make sure I’m getting all my parts in the right order
Is this correct or show me a simpler way straight to the sump for the drain
Tank>Threaded bulkhead> threaded coupling>threaded adapter slip to pvc>threaded gate valve> pvc straight to sump

@AlbertaBound - All I know is @mixer911 and the #Synergy #ReefSystems team did an unreal job on my new CL-44 custom sump and a Matching ATO reservoir for my new SCA Rimless 150 build. I will be running two return pumps a #Apexco20 for my main returns and for my Alage scrubber and manifold I will be using an #Vectra M1. Just wanted to say that I was not expecting such an amazing built sump. I spent over 6 months talking to all the different sump Manufactures and none of them were very helpful, let me tell you until I hooked up with Synergy Reef Systems. At first, I was going to buy a @geo sump but I don't care for how their reactors are integrated into there sumps which I am not a fan of. (Just my opinion) I did want a trigger system sump since those are a dime a dozen and was not a fan on how they have there drain set up. Also, I went to PM, and they were not much help either and I even tried to contact an Acrylic Manufacture called Primo Acrylics since I saw a few of this guy sumps and they looked very well built but the only problem is, the guy never answered my 5 emails that I sent to him trying to let him know that I am ready to drop $1500.00 on a sump and a matching ATO but this company does not want to even respond, so what in hell are they even in business then. Here are some pictures of some unbelievable craftsmanship on this gorgeous-looking CL-44 sump that they made for my SCA150.. Plus, Synergy's customer service was nothing but Superior compared to the other Sump MFG, no names mentioned.

Here are a few pixs of the new sump and ATO container.

In my 180 I use the Trigger Systems Saphire 39 with the Reef Octopus Varios 8 and it works great. You may be able to use a pump with less flow as I’m pumping water about 10 feet up from the basement to the DT.

How did this end up working out for you? I bought the same kit off of eBaY and have yet to set it up.

Thanks!

I’m new to this but it seems to be working well. I may try blocking the grates between the skimmer and refuge sections. I am getting some micro bubbles in the refuge, hoping if I can force the water up and over the baffle that it will help.

They work but there are issues. Depending n the design, you can lose siphon during power outages leading to overflowing when the pump comes back on. You may also get algae living in the lift tubes resulting in air bubbles in the lift tubes and again, loss of siphon. Overflows take up space and can look awkward. Having said that, I've never cracked an expensive tank installing an overflow box.

So i ordered my tank along with a sump from a local tank builder. They just told me that they do not have the sump in stock so they will need to be building more. They asked me if I had any specific request I would like to make. This is my first fish tank so I was thinking all i need is the following

3 chambers
1st chamber / big enough to hold a filter roller and protein skimmer
3rd chamber / just big enough to hold the return pump
2nd chamber / remainder of space available

Is that about right or is there something I"m missing?

Has your tank had a power failure yet? That sump looks over filled and would be run over by the water coming from the main tank.

This is how much extra space we had for our 220 gal reef.

Hi, hope I’m in the right place to post this.
I had a setup quite a few years ago that I’m resurrecting in the next couple of months, but wanted to modify my old sump to include a refugium by adding three new pieces of glass, creating a bubble trap before the return pump.
I want to put the skimmer in the 2nd chamber of the sump along with a media reactor.
Can anyone advise the best reactor, if it’s needed at all and the advantages.
If the new layout looks ok & the glass spacing would work? Any advise on filtration in the first chamber too please. I’m thinking a combination of MarinePure spheres, plates and or Siporax.
I’ve added images of the old setup and the new proposal. Thanks.

I've been debating where I should place my reactor, Before or after my refugium. I guess I'm leaning towards after so the algae can get a shot at eating first. After my chaeto and dragons breath get pumping I don't know if I'll even need a reactor.

I just found out Petco is having the $1 a gallon sale. I can get my sump tank and start building it plus a cheap little QT.

This is the part the unnerves me. I live on the second floor of a three story condo and the overflow risk! I too have been looking at the JaxRax sump kits. Any advice would be appreciated. Currently on an oversized canister that is working great. This is for my 37.5 tall.

Hi All,

After some advice on my sump. I was given this one to use on my tank but ive run into a problem whereby the pump that came with it (Nyos 5.0) doesn't fit in the last chamber. I've been told by a LFS that I can remove that far right panel and have both the skimmer and pump in the same chamber. In the first chamber i plan to put a sock and some marine pure as well. The other option (move the baffle a bit over to the left doesn't leave room for my protein skimmer. Any thoughts on what i could do? THe skimmer is a reef octopus 110 Int
