What size sump does everyone recommend for my 180 gallon? I was looking at the Trigger system Ruby Sump 36. As I have a vertex alpha 170 protein skimmer and a fluval sp6 3434 gph pump. Thanks.
I ended up ordering an eBay kit.
Setup like this, any feedback?
Wait for the M2’s ! They look cool.@AlbertaBound - All I know is #Synergy #ReefSystems did an unreal job on my new CL-44 Custom sump and a Matching ATO reservoir for my new SCA Rimless 150 build. I will be running two return pumps a Vectra M1 for my main returns and for my Alage scrubber and manifold I will be using an #Apexco20. Just wanted to say that I was not expecting such an amazing built sump. I spent over 6 months talking to all the differnt sump Manufactures and none of them were very helpful, let me tell you until I hooked up with Synergy Reef Systems. At first, I was going to buy a Geo Reef sump but i don't care for how their reactors are integrated into there sumps which I am not a fan of. I did want a trigger system sump since those are a dime a dozen and was not a fan on how they have there drain set up. Also, I went to PM, and they were not much help either and I even tried to contact an Acrylic Manufacture called Primo Acrylics since I saw a few of this guy sumps and they looked very well built but the only problem is the guy never answered my emails or phone calls, so I said the heck with this, I am ready to drop 1500.00 on a sump and this company does not want to even respond, why are they even in business?
Here are some pictures of the unreal craftsmanship on this gorgeous-looking CL-44 sump. Plus, Synergy's Customer service was nothing but Superior compared to the other Sump MFG, no names mentioned.
Here are a few pixs of the new sump and ATO container.
How did this end up working out for you? I bought the same kit off of eBaY and have yet to set it up.
Thanks!
I’m new to this but it seems to be working well. I may try blocking the grates between the skimmer and refuge sections. I am getting some micro bubbles in the refuge, hoping if I can force the water up and over the baffle that it will help.
I've been debating where I should place my reactor, Before or after my refugium. I guess I'm leaning towards after so the algae can get a shot at eating first. After my chaeto and dragons breath get pumping I don't know if I'll even need a reactor.Hi, hope I’m in the right place to post this.
I had a setup quite a few years ago that I’m resurrecting in the next couple of months, but wanted to modify my old sump to include a refugium by adding three new pieces of glass, creating a bubble trap before the return pump.
I want to put the skimmer in the 2nd chamber of the sump along with a media reactor.
Can anyone advise the best reactor, if it’s needed at all and the advantages.
If the new layout looks ok & the glass spacing would work? Any advise on filtration in the first chamber too please. I’m thinking a combination of MarinePure spheres, plates and or Siporax.
I’ve added images of the old setup and the new proposal. Thanks.

This is the part the unnerves me. I live on the second floor of a three story condo and the overflow risk! I too have been looking at the JaxRax sump kits. Any advice would be appreciated. Currently on an oversized canister that is working great. This is for my 37.5 tall. They work but there are issues. Depending n the design, you can lose siphon during power outages leading to overflowing when the pump comes back on. You may also get algae living in the lift tubes resulting in air bubbles in the lift tubes and again, loss of siphon. Overflows take up space and can look awkward. Having said that, I've never cracked an expensive tank installing an overflow box.
