I've only had this for a few weeks and it's colors are really nice, I know its a tiny frag but I can see the potential, I'd love to see some colonies if anyone has any pictures.

@Ellery your colony is just absolutely amazing and definitely a goal of anyone keeping these corals, what a beautiful piece and picture, thanks for sharing that !!!!

One of the first acros I ever got. It's very hardy and doing great! Thanks for introducing this classic into the hobby. Definitely I feel you get a good bang for your buck with Pc Rainbow. It's reasonably priced with beautiful coloration and it seems pretty tolerant.

Glad that I have some of that coral. It's amazing how different it can look depending on tank placement... and between two different tanks.

@SunnyX , hoping to see you again sometime soon. My PC Superman is turning into a nice sized colony now! :0)

When you have a frag available, please let me know. Your frags are always A+

I have two mini colonies in my tank….one is high and is mostly red and the other half way down with more green in it. They are under Radions AB+ at 60%. No blue at all and I keep my iodine at .03-.06..as mentioned it’s a hardy beautiful coral.

Have you tried adding more daylight to the Radions? This coral favors whiter lighting, at least in my experience as it originally was fostered came in a daylight heavy aquarium.

For those interested, here is my Radion profile: http://reefsite.com/radion-mobius-schedule/

You can download it and load it directly into Mobius. Adjust the intensity as needed.

Looking good, thanks for the low light advise, I have a low spot for it, its liking the frag rack wich is about the same intensity of the spot I will be tying it in.

Any idea to why mine glows green? Could it be low par? Or is this normal?

Hello,

I would raise the coral up a bit and see if that helps improve coloration. I have always found that the coral enjoys a mid-level amount of lighting, 200PAR or so.

Thats funny I've read that higher light tends to go red and I think I'm seeing a more red coming on now that I placed it on the rock work in its temporary permanent spot (if it likes it). But I don't want it to go red. If it does go red can a piece be fragged off and lowered in light and the yellow comes back or once it's red its red forever? Thanks!

This sounds plausible. My frag, while encrusting a nice base, is about 2/3 up about 13 inches below an Xr15 Blue at 70% intensity and it has lost some of the yellow/red coloration. I anticipate my par is relatively low compared to the acro beds at Cherry Corals (I think they keep theirs in 250-300 par).

I bought a small 4w 120° flexible daylight led for 16 bucks on Amazon as a test - could I use this to supplement my fixture? I was planning on starting with 1hr a day during "peak" and seeing how the corals react.

The original mother colony of which all true PC(Pro Corals) Rainbow acros descended from. Some of you may not know but at one point, years ago I sold corals under the Pro Corals name. I did it for a number of years but unfortunately had to step away due to health issues.

Concerning its origin, I received it in a sale locally from a reefer. It must have been 2005 or so. I was over at the sellers home to purchase some corals and there, amongst all of the beautifully colored corals was this drab, brown coral. I inquired about the piece and the seller gave me a bewildered look. He stated that he had had it in his setup for more than a year and it had done nothing. I relished the challenge. He gladly gave it to me, free of charge. The coral sat dormant in my setup for just under a year until I had a minor setback. Some corals began to bleach, the Rainbow acro did so completely. I thought about tossing the frag but by a stroke of dumb luck it disappeared from my system one day. I figured that my large blue tang had flung it about somewhere.

Fast forward to 2006 when I was moving my 225gl in-wall into the smaller 100gl rimless setup. I had cleared out all of the rockwork and was scooping up the rest of the sand. There, amongst the muck was the acro. To my amazement it had COLOR. Somehow, someway the coral had not only survived but added or somehow put out colors it had not previously possessed. I added the frag into my new setup and the rest is history.

Those who own it can attest to its durability and color. I have had it under MH, T5 and now LED and under all of these lights it shines bright.

I no longer sell to the general public, but do at times offer up corals to private collectors, especially those looking for corals directly from the source. Jim and I released quite a few nice pieces over the years and am extremely happy to see the companies name listed under just about every coral vendor.

The coral has been floating around the hobby and have rarely seen anyone replicate the blue base. I don’t know if that’s down to the environment or if people even have the real deal. I am growing an original piece of the coral in my latest aquarium and will post some pictures soon.

The picture below is from a number of years back.

Lugols Solution always did the trick for me, bringing out the blue hues in corals. And I’m general, the corals enjoys placement midway up the tank and heavy flow.

I know that some will ask, but at this point I do sell frags. Perhaps once my latest build has grown out and I need to trim back on some corals.

If there are any additional questions concerning the coral please let me know.

Hi Sunny!

I just ran across this thread last week.... wow, what a flashback! My daughter and i were at your home years ago (at least 10, probably more) to see your tank and pick up something (can't recall what, too long ago). Glad to hear that you are doing better; often wondered what you were doing these days.

I did acquire a frag of this gem some years back; it's now a massive colony! It has taken many colors over the years; it's now lower in my tank, and tends to be more rose-red in color, and the shaded portions get more greens and yellows.

Ironically, my daughter brought you up on Sunday when she was over for a visit. She brought up you in reference to her friends Rachael & Jerry! A very small world.... quite serendipitous.
