I found this picture of a 180 and I think I really want to make mine like this; the minimalist look.

Think I can get away with just 2 Hydra 52's or should I pick up one more?

Hats off to all you who take the time to plan out your build.
That being said, I spend all day at work planning and the last thing I want to do is come home and plan my aquarium build.

The end results are two fold. First, I do end up wasting money, but I do learn a lot on my own along the way. The pudding on the cake; my kids seem to take on more as they watch me fail but keep going.

This all brings me to my post today. Again I tear apart the overflow. This time I only remove the internal glass box. I don't have any real reason for doing so other than I had much poly left overs and wanted to make a cool weir with lid that was changeable. The only reason I went glass in the first place is having bulks head between the two overflow boxes always seemed like a weak point. But because on my set up, the only purpose of the bulkheads is to hold the internal box I place and not about creating a seal between the glass and the outer box. Not sure if that makes sense.

So today I built out a poly internal box and need to order some 1.5 bulk heads.

Stand parts to arrive tomorrow along with the Wen Drill press.

Will post some pictures tomorrow of the stand parts.

2 @ 44" part [HASHTAG]#2040[/HASHTAG] long cross supports (2" x 4")
The Tank:
Part list
4 @ 40” part [HASHTAG]#2040[/HASHTAG] long cross supports (2” X 4”)

4 @ 22” part [HASHTAG]#2040[/HASHTAG] short cross supports (2” X 4”)

2 @ 22” part [HASHTAG]#2040[/HASHTAG] center short cross supports (2” X 4”)

4 @ 32” part [HASHTAG]#2040[/HASHTAG] fixed ends (2” X 4”)

I am opting for
10 Series 10-32 Standard Anchor Fastener Assembly with counterbores for securing it all together.
So here is one of those things I was talking about not planning this build.

I've way over built this stand.

If I could do it again my order would look like:

4 @ 32" part [HASHTAG]#2020[/HASHTAG] fixed ends (2" x 2")
2 @ 44" part [HASHTAG]#2040[/HASHTAG] long cross supports (2" x 4")
3 @ 22" part # 2040 short cross supports (2" x 4")

The above would make up the legs and top stand support

2 @ 44" part [HASHTAG]#2020[/HASHTAG] long cross supports (2" x 2")
3 @ 22" part # 2020 short cross supports (2" x 2")

Which would make up the bottom of the stand which will hold the sump.

The above would have saved me nearly 20%.

Oh well, I have one over built stand weighing in at 80lbs. Still lighter than the steel stand and no need for powder coating.

So got the internal overflow box ready for finishing and polishing.

My laser cnc won't be available for delivery until June so I went ahead and built it be hand. I am happy with the out come and most importantly is it does not leak at the seams.

Spent some time today in the learning mode.
Took some time, but I've got everything ligned up to build a jig now.

Hind sight, it would have been better to have them drilled out for me as my time could have been better spent on other things.

Thank you!

I added a pilot bit to the counterbore bit. It was walking on me and made a sloppy start. I need to drop my rpm's down on the drill to around 800. This will help.

The jig will make this go a lot quicker.
