I was told to unplug it from Apex since it’s slot of wear on their socket. Anyone else heard of this?

That's my concern with my current practice - controlling a titanium heater directly by the Apex. That means the outlet is cycling frequently and I'm concerned about wearing it out. But if this unit was plugged into the Apex as a failsafe - power shutdown to the Helio if tank temp gets too high, I can't see how it's hard on the Apex unit...

My thought also.

You know I thought that too as that's what you normally hear. Like everything else, it'll wear it eventually right? It's just that hefty price tag to fix replace one outlet. I recently had to stop using my inkbird for reasons and I'm temporarily controlling my heaters using the Apex while I research a new approach.
My current (get it) estimates are a max of around 4,300 cycles per year per heater on each relay in my setup. Not sure what their relays are rated for but others on the market are rated in millions, though I doubt neptune is dumping that kind of quality in there. I can't believe it's less that a couple hundred thousand though either. Just speculation though. Guess I'm feeling up for going against the grain and challenging that popular notion... Wish me luck lol

I'm leaning towards this right now...

I was one of the lucky winners of the new HELIO Innovative Marine heaters on the Facebook group. I was given the 100 watt system for my Innovative Marine 20 gallon drop off. UPS delivered it today and I did some unboxing pics for everyone. I must say this is a quality heater no doubt about it. I am going to install it on my system Thursday and update everyone. Thank you Innovative Marine!

Had mine up since December, best heater. I guess I didn’t have the alarm off after all. I left my return pump off alittle longer than usual, the alarm went off. Once the pump was on, back to business as usual. I know the alarm works and it’s loud.

I've had mine running since Dec as well and have no issues. I love the thing. I don't think twice about it and I haven't done that with a heater in decades.
My only problem now is i need to cool my tank. the temps are rising too high with the heat in my house and summer in texas coming soon.
I wish this thing had one more port for chiller control and it would be the perfect climate control system.

Living in the desert I only run heaters 3-4 months. When it starts to warm up, out they come.

Thinking of pulling the trigger on this since my Hydros did some concerning things with my heater over the weekend. Has anyone done any power outage testing?
1) Does it reliably hold the settings? 5 mins? 5hrs?
2) If the water temp goes below the lower setpoint during a failure, when power is restored, does it engage the heater? Someone mentioned another brand will not trigger back on in this scenario.

Thanks!

Yes, it holds the settings after power outage. It also kicks right back on to get temp back where it was. I turn it off before wc sometimes an hour or better, turn it back on, using apex, kicks in to bring temp up.

Thank you very much for replying. I’m glad to hear that. Shame I have to spend a few hundred more bucks after investing in a Hydros system but I can’t trust it to control heating.

It looks great. I am thinking of buying the product in the photo I sent. I wonder if it takes up a lot of space. I was undecided. The dimensions of the aquarium I have are 100cmx40cmx40cm. What are you thinking?

You’re welcome. I love this heater set up, it’s expensive but not as much as what’s in the tank.
