Hello all. Unfortunately I’m back in the fish disease/treatment section again. 5 days ago I purchased a yellow watchman goby. He looked fine in the LFS. When I got him home I noticed the whole around his gills was turning white. I put this down to stress. Since then he has remained extremely timid and will dart about the tank. He has dug underneath some rocks and stays there unless feeding. His left side has returned to yellow however he seems to have a large white mark down his right side. I can’t get a good photo as when ever I’m close he shoots into his hole (at the back of the tank which makes it even harder). I’ll upload the best photos I have. Could anyone tell me if this is scaring from digging or if it’s something else. Also is there anything I can do for him?

The other side of his body is completely fine.

Appears to be bacterial and may have begun from injury. Fish will have to be quarantined in separate tank and treated with seachem Kanaplex
For the future, Please post pics under white lighting. This was very difficult to dee under blue lights

Hi thanks. I have got some under white lights however they’re not the best as he just doesn’t stay still. Is there anything reef safe I can dose the Display tank with or will it have to be a fish out job. I’ve read they don’t do well in QT and also he will be a disaster to catch but I guess if I have to I’ll try.

Yes- bacterial. other medication if you cant find Kanaplex is Maracyn 2. Monitor water quality mainly ammonia during treatment with a reliable test kit and add aeration with air stone

I live in the U.K. and I can’t find those online to get hold of easily. The kanaplex will not arrive until next Monday. Is there anything specific I need or can it just be bacterial treatment?
Sorry for all the questions I really appreciate the help.

Yes, the UK has restricted all true antibiotics for aquarium use. This species is prone to a particularly virulent bacterial disease, and without good antibiotics, I'm really not sure what you can do for it.....sorry!

Hi thanks for that Jay. Do you think it’s still worth trying to QT the fish or would it cause more stress to the fish than it’s worth if it probably won’t work? I’ve just bought the medication and a QT tank so I have it if I ever need it in the future. I just don’t want to put the poor thing through more stress.

For your country, Its waterlife Myxazin. You should be able to find that in your area

Tough to forecast the outcome. I would certainly try to save it, but with the medication not arriving until tomorrow, I'm worried there won't be enough time (medications take time to work, meanwhile the disease may continue to spread).
