Hello Everyone . I'm setting up my first reef tank , an IM 75 EXT , that came with a 2650 gph dc return pump and would like to run a second pump. I was thinking about running one pump to each return with a shut off valve between them. First question; is this a good way to go about doing this? Second question; would a second 2650 gph dc pump be too much for this tank , even turned down?

Not sure if there is any benefit in running 2 pumps. Just buy a second and keep it as a spare.
If a 2700gph pump can be turned down to 1350gph . Then at that speed would give you approximately 2700gph.

Thank you for answering. This is my first saltwater tank and my first go at a sump. I'm not sure if even the single pump will have to be turned down or how low the 2650 gph pump will go. I have read on this forum where some people are running two pumps so if your away for a few days ,or even 12 hours and the pump stops running the tank will be okay. Sounds like a good idea to me. Cheers
