I have this algae that grows in long strands like chaeto linum. However, it attaches quite strongly to EVERYTHING! It is impossible to dislodge it at its base and it has the texture of the hair of a horses mane and tail. For non-horsey people, it's thick, coarse, and wiry. Here's a pic...

Just from the description it sounds like a type of Cladophoropsis. What does it look like in the water? Does it sent out runners?

I don't think it does, but I'm not not entirely sure. It's completely linear. No branching at all. I tried to get a pic and video. It most definitely got away from me in my QT tank. I thought it was just chaeto linum that came out of the HOB fuge until it started attaching to pumps and heaters.
