There's a little hole* (1/4"-1/3") at the top of the pump pipe/feed tube/whatever the technical term is.

I'm worried it's going to cause food that hasn't hydrated yet to get ejected directly into my overflow. There is no other spot to mount my autofeeder on the tank.

1. What is it for/is it essential?

2. Can I block it/if so how?

*It's not the rivet hole as mine predates that feature.

The hole is to prevent an overflow above the rim of the tank on original 1 piece plank platforms. Since changing to a 2 piece plank we eliminated the hole since we stepped the pipe down to below the tank rim as a better solution. If I remember correctly we sent a new 2 piece platform to you but maybe not a new pipe? You should be able to flip the original pipe to get the hole on the bottom if that's the case. Let us know if you need more help.

Avast has provided an explanation and solution.

And imo surpassed Ecotech* as the best customer service in the industry.

*Ecotech has always been the best in my eyes.
