I’ve been reefing for over a year now and just got my first ATO system. I have a 10 gallon mixed reef tank and I would top off around 16-20oz of water a day due to evaporation. My question is, prior to setting up my ATO, what other parameters were likely effected by the salinity swings between top offs. I keep my salinity at 1.025 but I can’t imagine it would raise to more than 1.026-1.027. To what effect would that increase have on my tank?

Not much. Ca might go up and down with SG. But in the narrow range you sight, it shouldn't have much effect at all.

Once you have corals in the tank, alk is the one you want to keep to a narrow spread.

Awesome. My alk has been hovering around 10.5-11 for the past few months. All corals look good so we’ll just keep it rolling!
