So interested to see the answers here. I'm coming from the freshwater world, and selling tanks to have only my 300gal fresh tank & 180 gal salt tank (and 30gal frag). Both systems are on a sump.

I used to run fluval fx6 canisters on my fw tanks. I have two very lightly used ones and can't decide if I should sell em and lose 50% what I paid. Or hang onto them for backups for some reason? I assumed salt/reef tanks were all sump and saw there's. Few who do use canisters.

HOB filters do the same job but better and for less money. The cleaning of a canister is the worst part imo as they make swapping / cleaning the mechanical filter every few days a pain. Otherwise they are fine. They are just sort of unnecessary.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
