There is such thing as excessive air in the titrant syringe but richieT is right. that .15 to .1 air gap is if you want to use the entire syringe worth of solution. you can have a .4ml air gap, use .1ml and still will get the same result as having no air gap. Assuming the plunger is drawn to the 1ml mark. If you have a .4ml air gap and use up all the (about) .6ml of solution and need more than you will get incorrect results.
