I was being somewhat of a wise guy. I get every tanks different and it would be a massive chemical analysis to even begin to comprehend why and how everything works the way it does, im just not sure what went wrong last time and my 2 fish I lost this time got me mildly paranoid :face-with-tears-of-joy:
that's a different story then. if everything was smooth, use the old tank water, if you had fish die, what did they die from is what I would be concerned with. BUT, if it's QT, wouldn't you be running copper or meds? or is this just coral QT for pests? If just coral, then I believe you can go all fresh salt water.

Well i haven't had anything die in 4 months or better and the 2 clownfish made it and are still thriving. My inverts are all still doing good too. I attributed it to tank sterility and lack of diversity. I think(assumed?) Blennies and YWG were naturally going to pick at live rock, sift sand and eat microfauna and since my had none, and neither were terribly voracious feeders, that maybe they didn't have enough to eat? But the blenny always hid and the Goby found his home in the back out of sight

That's pretty sweet! I'll have to google one of those. My neighbor makes meadow. We're going to try brewing beer soon.
I'm assuming you meant Mead. I've made that too. 15 pounds of clover honey into 5 gallons of water. usually comes out around 18%. Just takes a really long time to settle out. like 18 months or so.

That being said, my 2 current clowns are 8 like 8 or 10 years old. They were my first fish from my first tank, when I shut that down i gave them to my buddy who helped on to them till this spring when I took them back and he shut his tank down. They went through a copper power treatment before being added to this tank, so while they now shouldn't have any ich on them, they should still have some immunities to it? I was going to qt the coral for pests and run it fallow but I would so rather not.. I just thought most people did this and that's when wrong with my last tank.

Yea, I struggle with the auto correct, and I think it personally hates me so makes me sound dumb :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I want to turn a part of ny basement into my "fish lab" but I have a slate pool table i need to get rid of first... and it's fairly, moderately, incredibly heavy :grinning-face-with-sweat: once that's out... game on! Lol
that would look nice. a 9 ball as your centerpiece inside the tank.

yeah, I see so many mistakes from my auto correct after I post or even send a text message. then instead of correcting later, I figure most peeps would figure it out. Some words are pretty funny though they get the correction. This you just can't let go.

sometimes you can get away with racking a few times in 6 months or if you want to adulterate it and add some isinglass finings etc...Many moons ago, a shop I used to go to had one guy that would make mead every summer, bury it in a oak barrel in his yard, let it stay there under snow and frozen ground, then dig it up in the spring and rack it. I can't imaging how it would affect everything. but it was his process.
