Just a suggestion, take it or leave it. You want your nitrates at 10-15.
I'm trying to get it there. I feed 1 cube of frozen food and I have an auto feeder feeding pellets 2 times a day and i don't use filter socks anymore and clean my skimmer once a week and run it dry so as not to strip the water too fast. It was lingering around 5 but I think the microbactor was what tipped me over into the low nitrate situation. I'm contemplating turning my skimmer off 12 hours a day if my tests don't show they went up tomorrow

I'm gonna test again tomorrow but last I had like 1.3 nitrates and .03 phosphates, but I had been dosing microbactor 7 pretty heavy and from what I understand it can help remove nitrates? So i stopped dosing like 4 days ago and have upped my feedings
Pretty much zero.
Don't change any water and start yucking it up in there.
Take a filter pad, your hand, paper towel-whatever and gently remove whatever sticks.

I've been blowing off my rocks every day or 2 with a turkey baster. And it's been like 3 weeks since my last water change. Tomorrow's agenda is test water, then clean off rocks. I use filter socks after I clean off my rocks till everything I blow off works it's way through them

Sounds good.
I would take mine out and rinse in a bucket of tank water.

Unfortunately my rocks are massive and it would be a fairly large project to do that :confused-face: one of my regrets. I like the rock work, but i wish I made it more modular when I did my design

Sorry Mike!
I didn't know that.
If you've got a spare powerhead, small one you can use that.
Goes faster.
I had good luck with that.

I might have one kicking around. I'll have to look as the turkey baster definitely takes awhile haha

@Nor'easter Reefer that doesn't look like dinos to me. Follow @00W's advice, because I know nothing about cyano lol.

I had to turn off my skimmer completely (and it still is) to get my nutrients up.

I hope not haha. I wanted to keep the skimmer on for oxygen/ph boost but that's literally my only nutrient export and the tanks too clean. Stupid reef octopus and making products that work :grinning-face-with-sweat:

I mean my LFS doses it in his red sea.. 3 tangs a bubch of other fish and huge toadstools, Kenya's, Duncan's and lots of other stuff. Basketball sized anenome
If you don't have corals, why dose the big elements? They all rely on alk numbers for dosing guidelines. If you're not consuming alk, calc, and magnesium, why add it? You can add aminos/trace alone. Just my opinion. I know you do water changes and all.

Scientist I am not but cyno appears for me when nutrients are extremely low and the numbers don't correlate.
My little tank has had cyno, nothing terrible but there for weeks.
I recently turned everything off, reef octo, no sump, nothing.
Running only a HOB filter.
No water changes.
Cyno is leaving and my numbers are looking higher and a little more even.
Have no idea if that makes sense but there is such a thing as too clean.
A little diversity is good too.
