Man... First off, Sorry to hear about your clowns, that's awful. :(

Been off the forums for a while, so just now checking in on your thread. I see that you got some aqua rocks. Still loving mine, what do you think?

Looks like you're headed in the right direction with dosing and your corals are responding well.

As for the Aptasia, I've had good luck with Joe's Juice. Melts them instantly.
Just use a syringe and squirt it on them?

I think the goal is to put it on the oral disk and have them ingest it to kill from the inside out. It’s important to stop the flow in your tank for 30 minutes too. This prevents the juice from blowing around and allowing the nem to only partially die. When they partially die they can spread real bad. There’s a lot of ways none of them are full proof. Peppermint shrimp are also popular.

That's how I've had the best luck! No flow, approach them slowly so they don't retract, and try to add the liquid directly to the oral disk so they ingest it and melt from the inside out. I do have a peppermint shrimp that likely manages new small ones as they pop up, and I only have to eradicate large ones occasionally.

I've used other products in the past where they appear to have died when covered in the solution, but pop right back up in a day or two.

I will see if any of my LFS have Joe's and if not order it online.

Tonight's test results.

20241016_211751.jpg

A little lower than I felt like it should have been given a 12 ml daily dose of AFR. After some investigation, I found the output line from the doser was disconnected. Reconnected it and manually tried to dose to make sure the line was purged of air. It was clogged and popped off the doser again. Took it to the sink and ran hot water through it and got it unclogged. Hopefully it had only been disconnected a few days and luckily it was only dosing 12 ml, so it didn't make too big of a mess behind the tank.

Anyone else have issues with AFR clogging their dosing lines???

Mine line doesn’t clog, but I do get some buildup at the output into the tank. Usually I just flick off the little crystallized bit once a week lol.

Does your line remain primed between doses?

I need to pay closer attention to the doser to try to figure out what might be causing the issue. The bottle of premixed AFR I am using is quite old. It has been under the stand of my biocube for years. It does have some blackish floaties in it. I was just going to use it up and then buy some powdered mix to make mine own going forward. I wonder if the floaties settled out and were picked up by the doser and plugged the tubing.

Like I said. I will pay closer attention to see if I can figure out what is going on.

Been a productive morning here with the mixed reef!

Things I accomplished so far:
-Cleaned glass
-Changed filter sock
-Nuked my lone aptasia with Joe's Juice
-Tested Alk
-Adjusted AFR dosage

Things still need to be done:
-Buy more CUC (need to address bubble algae)
-5 gal water change

This mornings test results!

20241026_094140.jpg

Backed off the doser to 12 mm daily of AFR as I am aiming for a dKH between 8 and 9. Will continue to monitor and adjust accordingly.

Results of my nuking of the aptasia! Time will tell if I got it, but it almost seemed to melt immediately. Definitely need to get the bubble algae under control. Any suggestions on CUC members to help accomplish this?

Woo hoo! Hopefully the Aptasia stays gone.

Emerald crabs can help with bubble algae, I see mine eating it frequently. They might nip at zoas too though.

Thanks for the suggestion!

So I need 1 emerald crab, a tiger conch, several trochus (if the LFS has them), and possibly more snails to help stir the sand bed!

I used an emerald grab for it on my previous tank. You hear people having issues with them nipping at softies sometimes but I never saw mine do it. I always figured once the bubble was gone, if i had that problem he could live in the sump until he was needed again.

I had good luck with them in my biocube too. But never had many corals for them to bother if they chose too! Actually! I might go hunting tonight and see I might just be able to catch one out of my other tank if there are still any alive!

Your thread is on my watch list but I *NEVER* get notifications! Weird..

Anyway I need to scroll back now and get caught up lol
I have that happen to random threads once in a while too. Once I go back in and get caught up, they seem to start working again. I just got in the habit of just dropping in my watched thread tab every few days and haven't had it happen again recently!

Still trying to figure out my lighting situation. Threw a hail mary and ordered a cheap power supply off Amazon for the Kessil. I had a similar issue with my prime dropping channels and it turned out to be the power supply, so i thought id give it a try with the kessil. Can always return it if it doesnt work. If the new power supply doesn't fix it I will decide on a permanent replacement fixture and get whatever I decide ordered/purchased.

I wish I would have taken a video of it. When I ran the normal light cycle it wasn't near as noticeable. But when I ran a preview of the light schedule, the dropping of channels showed up distinctly as flickering due to the rapid acceleration of the schedule. The channels would drop in and out based on voltage especially during my peak photo period when wattage was at it highest. Primes are extremely finicky about getting an exact input voltage to function correctly. The PS I used was like 15 bucks on Amazon and it has been running problem free since.

Good to know, I may try it one day. It's a freshwater prime and nothing comes on with mine. It connects, and shows on the app, shows me the schedule, but even pushing all on, nothing happens.
