My 10 yr old son and I were actually talking about the Halloween hermit this morning. He said he noticed the shell is in a different spot everyday, so he thinks it is still alive.

I haven't solved my lighting situation, just using my Ai prime for now. I really want a Reefi Uno 2.1, but my wife didn't like the 600 price tag.

I have considered a Hydra 32, because things are going so well with the Prime...would help me boost my par. Depending on the price, I'd be interested!

Check into the Quanta Helix lights! :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I would do 2 meso and 1 Crest I think. Would be very similar coverage as T5. My favorite light I ever used was a sunlight supply 6 bulb Tek T5 fixture over a 90 gal tank!

I just hated replacing the bulbs once a year...but wouldn't have that issue with the helix!

@JoJosReef - If my phyton smells "off" is it no longer safe to use? Or worth using?

I have kept it in the fridge, but it is many many months old at this point.
My sniff test is if it smells at all like rotting eggs, toss it. If it smells like wet mowed grass, keep going. Sometimes it can be a pretty intense grassy smell, but as long as it doesn't have that sulfurous rotting smell, I keep going with it.

Well, it has already been an eventful new year for the reef!...

The light situation has kinda sorted itself out for now! A local reefer offered me an amazing deal on a pretty much new AI Hydra 32HD! I immediately jumped at the opportunity and went and picked it up from him immediately! I have been really happy with the way the Prime has worked out on the tank, but felt it was just slightly underpowered for the cube...so I think it's big brother will be the perfect upgrade for the immediate future! I am going to run some par numbers on the prime before I take it off the tank and use those numbers as the starting point for the intensity of the Hydra!

I also picked up one of my all time favorites from a reefer I connected with that ended up living just down the street from me!

Utter Chaos!

And I may regret this in the future, but I also snagged a frag of pulsing xenia from him too! I just love the movement of the pulsing hands!

2025 is off to a great start for the Reef!

Just joined reef2reef and your build thread caught my eye. I read through the entire thing and boy what a journey you have been on! Nice to see you kept going though after the losses! Looking forward to watching your tank grow, you have some nice pieces in there.

About your toadstool. I had one for quite a while, mine was about 4inches square and it was the weirdest piece I have ever kept. It was super temperamental and would shrivel up for weeks and then shed and be nice for a while and then the polyps would stay retracted and boom a week later back to normal. As mentioned by others though the other euphillias could also be bothering it though as they do have some crazy sweepers at night... worth considering. :)

Thanks for tagging along! It definitely has been quite the journey so far! With many more ups and downs to come, I'm sure!

Went to a new LFS today and had them spin my water.

Here are the results!
20250104_165541.jpg

Alk is a bit lower than I'd like. Might up the AFR a ml or 2 to bring it up a little. Nitrates are zero....need to figure out how to bring nitrates up, without adding more phosphates, and bring phosphates down.

Suggestions?
