Going to get a nice video of these two tomorrow. Their burrow is right in the front in the acan garden!

Money Cowrie. I probably should have included that in the post lol. They have these skin flaps like a clam mantle that extends over the shell. It looks remarkable - nothing like it.
Oh, I'd only seen them for sale with a smooth shell and didn't realise they grew skin flaps. Would love to add a couple but I'm concerned about my CUC as it is.

Looking forward to your video

Thank you! I’m taking more time with iMovie to make these videos. Took me parts of the entire day, but it’s done! I’ll release it tomorrow. Got some really good footage im very excited to share including the pistol shrimp cleaning the Yasha goby.

But yes cowries have these amazing mantles or folds that cover the shell when they move around. According to this video we’re not 100% sure what the purpose of the mantle and frills are.

edit - keep in mind this video is for the tiger cowrie. The money cowrie stays around 1" full grown, but the information is about the same.

Rev Hammontree the owner of R2R banned my account when I questioned him about some of the sponsors selling out to private equity along with allegations of discrimination. He won’t respond to me at all, and I’m pretty sure SauceyReef is perma-banned. If you’re interested just look up the Reverends name in google and you can read all the great stuff about this human being for yourself. I will continue to post under this account seeing it is allowed.

Some coral photo updates!

A cool example of white zombies vs speckled agaves

The Red Planaria is starting to really take over now that I have not had a wrasse or mandarin in the tank for a while

Aquacultured Scoly I won at our local reef club raffle! I was told to be officially aquacultured they are cut it into 8 pieces and it goes through 2-4 generations. So one wild caught scoly at this point turned into 16-32 scolys.

Love this Acan. Still have not gotten to cut it yet - slow grower.

Tiddy Twister Blasto! Also a slow grower compared to my Rainbow Ultra Blasto

Good and bad news. I’ll start with the good: My rock flowers are breeding!

Just a couple months ago I noticed a beautiful shiny fluorescent speck in my back chamber. I grabbed my UV flashlight and starting find them everywhere! I picked out 10 babies out of the chaeto - a few weeks before I threw out 90% of it. I probably threw away 50!! But I found another 5 in the DT sand I could remove. And probably another 5-10 in the rocks I can not get. So I have about 15 in this little container to protect them. The remainder are on their own!

The bad news: every RFA I got at the swap last week melted. 4/4 each one from a different vendor. I had asked all the vendors how long they had them in hopes to avoid newly shipped in ones. Sadly it meant nothing. I than reached out to the Ohio Reef FB group to see who else had them die from the swap . Pretty much every RFA that was bought from the 10 vendors perished in a week. RFAs are in a sad state

I finally got a chance to get some photos of the babies I’ve been collecting. Sadly though the infection I got from the swap is spreading to more of the larger RFAs. 2-3 more old ones are going down. What a bittersweet period..
