Awesome — good timing during the holiday break!!! Congrats
I am waiting to hear from the riggers that will be bring the tank, stand and canopy to the first level of the house on the 24th.
They might be able to do it. That would make it a magical Xmas :)

That would be a miracle though — Xmas Eve delivery? You gotta tip those movers! ha

I have started to layout the equipment in the sump according to my plans. This will give me a clearer picture of how to route the wires to my control cabinet which isn't built yet. Also need to determine if extension cords are needed.
  • Temporarily installed one of the Orphek Altantik fixtures & can control it via the app
  • Unboxed the two Red Dragon pumps and temporarily positioned them.
  • Setup the Reef Factory smart fleece roller
Tonight's plan:
Level the display tank and sump
Setup the skimmer
Set up the heaters

Still plenty more to do after that but I am looking forwarded to working on the system.

Mission accomplished/ I also installed all the bulkheads in the sump. They neglected to provide a second black leveling pad so I have used the standard pad which looks really bad. Going to have to lift the sump off the stand when the black pad arrives. More tomorrow unless I get a second wind:)

Great start to the build.

Whatever you do in the sump, make sure you set it up where it is easy to change out the fleece rolls. For some reason, a lot of reefers are using the RS reefmat, perhaps it is the easiest to change the rolls. But the #1 complaint for fleece roller users is when they are changing rolls, they either set it too far back and hard to reach or the roller design makes it hard to remove the roller while in the sump.

Just something to think about while you are laying out the sump design.

Thanks Jimbo I will double check for clearance.

You will need to adjust the filter roller to be higher. The rolls need to be dry. So it needs to be higher than the baffles. Positioning the skimmer behind the filter roller may be a major PITA to service under the stand (especially when the filter roller will be higher). I'm guessing you don't want to use the middle section for the skimmer?

Thanks for all you input Jimbo!
I have never used a fleece roller in the past.
This is a basement sump, and I have access to all sides. The middle section is for a fuge.

I am going to use a milk crate, or an egg crate stand to raise the fleece roller.
The RK2 skimmer can be installed internally or externally. My initial plan was run it in sump because it is a counter current skimmer so water level doesn't. The height of the weir is 18" which is above the skimmer return pipe so it too would have to be raised. Now I am leaning towards mounting it externally on a stand alongside of the sump. It is amazing that even with a years' worth of planning I am still making modifications.

Once again all input is greatly appreciated. Regards Dan

I’ve heard the same thing regarding the roller filters. I’m going to be using a Red Sea 1200 and I’ve got a raiser ready to go. Hopefully we will be able to share our findings and help each other find a good sweet spot.
