I’m setting up a 25g ext with a triton 26. I want to run a bare bottom in the main tank. For the sump, should I run sand and rock, or do I run the bio blocks. I’ll run chaeto in both. Advantages and disadvantages of both? What’s your favorite bio block to use?

Personally I would not put sand in the sump, I've not seen any tanks function like that myself.

I do have some rocks and rock rubble in my sump.

A bio block is a choice I suppose, frankly if you have rocks in the display then bioblock is not needed.

I've never chaeto myself because I never had the need, but if you have consistently high nitrates than it is one option.
