As the title says. Wanting to see if there are any problems with keeping multiple Magnifica's in the same tank? Had issues with multiple types of bubble tips and don't want a repeat of the slow death of one of them anemones.

The Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead has a cool exhibit with multiple Magnificas, but it is a large tank, perhaps 2000 gallons. To be honest, I don't know how/why they do so well with these - I killed more than my fair share of them back in the 1980's (ugh).

I've had my Magnifica anemone in the tank 4 weeks after I set it up. It's colored up nicely. Hasn't moved once. Been sitting in the same spot on the upper rock. Really they seem easy to care for once acclimated to the aquarium.

I got him so soon because I couldn't find another purple Magnifica and fell in love with the color.

Here is a pic when I first got him on Oct 8th.

My 80 gallon that was up for 3 years:

Everything moved to a 360 gallon this past summer. I now have room for more. I think I'll be moving out the SPS corals to make even more room for more Mags!

Wow beautiful tanks! So overall it doesn't look like there was any issues between the different magnifica nems. Like bubble tips where you'll have a morph just slowly die on you for no reason. Thanks for sharing the vids!

Thank you very much! Mags are my obsession. However, I am seeing what I believe to be some possible allelopathy. It could be between the various locale Magnifica or possibly from the larger, more dominant, Mags. I have 3 Mags (out of 15) that are decreasing in size over the last several months since being added to the larger tank. They are outwardly healthy in every respect, firmly attached, eating well, reactive, sticky, etc.. They are just notably getting smaller regardless of feeding, getting plenty of light, and high random flow. Tank parameters are optimal.
Now, this could also not be related to the bigger Mags, or locale specific, at all. I do have several dozen rainbow BTA's, a few Colorado BTA's, 12 LTA's, and 6 sebae in this tank.
I am running a large amount of carbon, heavily skim, 20% water changes every weekend, and run a large UV to help combat any allelopathy. I need to start some GFO and it was recommended that Ozone may help as well.

If I remember correctly, these are all clones of the same magnifica. Unique Corals used to sell the clones on their site for $1,000+. Clones typically don't have issues with one another.

On a related note, like BTAs, some people believe that there are both solitary and colonial varieties of these species. It's the solitary ones that are of concern, but there's no way to tell them apart.

I currently have two magnifica (a purple with blue tips and a mauve with green tips) sharing the same rock, and they seem to be doing okay. They're currently both about the same size. That said, it's only been a few months so I think it's too early to know if they're compatible or not. With my gigs, the decline of one or more of the individual specimens took a long time to actually notice--it was only when looked at photos of my tank that I noticed that they had gotten a lot smaller.

Thanks for your insight. I had some bad luck trying to mix bubbletips. I'll probably hold off for some time before getting another Magnifica anemone even though Pacific East just got some new green tips in.

Thanks for your insight! Sounds like it's easier to mix different species than different morphs of the same species...
