My Apex routinely loses connection and has to be rebooted with the paperclip. Unfortunately when mine goes out the heater becomes inoperable for some reason. I had to install a second heater with a thermostat as a backup. Glad yours came back on!

Mine goes down pretty often on 1 of my 2 tanks where WiFi is a little spotty. Very easy to fix - unplug, wait 10 seconds and plug back in. I see that it's back on you can make sure to let your fish caretaker know which plug (mine is marked) is for the Apex so they can easily do this when you are on vacation.

Mine is plugged directly into a router and it still loses connection all the time.

No caretaker, unfortunately. Everything is automated, feeding, water changes, dosing, ATO, etc.
For me, unplugging, and plugging never work. It’s always the paper clip in the reset hole. I’m just grateful that it came on by itself this time.

How old is your apex? Sounds like SD card failure. If you are doing alot of logging that could cause it.

I found the key to APEX stability is its AUX P/S on a battery backup.

Still running few classics and one A2 without hiccups - all setup with AUX P/S

It is probably 5-6 years old. I didn't even know it used an SD card.

It does. Cheap Chinese clone prone to failure. When it locks up that is usually the cause. Unfortunately replacing it is a full redo.

I had to replace mine a few months ago. It’s a small size ( 8 gig I think, can’t be larger ) so I had to order it online ( no retailers sell the small memory cards anymore ) Customer supports at Neptune walked me thru the issue

Was it still under warranty or did Neptune extended a courtesy of helping you outside the warranty?

No. The SD card was only a few $'s so it really didn't matter much. There are several tutorials on Youtube that they pointed me for assitance. Note that my Apex didn't fail, i just wasn't getting any data showing for all the probes and Trident. That's a telltale sign that it's the SD Card. When my Apex goes offline - that's when i just unplug and plug back in and 99.5% of the time it resets and goes back online.

I get that - I was trying to see if Neptune was nice enough to provided support outside the warranty period.

Personal experience here and not related to this specific issue, yes. Neptune will always reply to support tickets. Level of support though will vary depending on the issue and product. I've submitted various tickets and my Apex head unit is well past warranty. Most recent ticket was my Trident. Previous was my ATO.

Trident was pretty easy as it has been running since late 2021 and ended up doing a cross ship service. They did offer some trouble shooting tips so did not jump right to the service. The ATO was a bit more interesting and ended up replacing the sensors. In this case it was again well beyond warranty but they offered me a discount on a sensor.

Just my experience. Maybe the issues are simple so not a huge time sync. I don't know but I am a firm believer that it never hurts to submit a ticket.
